Even though glimpses of Wicked: For Good have featured Glinda in a wedding dress, I don’t think she will actually get married in the film. The upcoming Wicked: For Good will be a heartbreaking and emotional watch after the dramatic ending of the first film. Wicked focused on the unlikely friendship between Elphaba and Glinda, who will become known as the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North, respectively. Elphaba and Glinda formed a deep bond, but went separate ways at the end of Wicked.
In the sequel, Elphaba will be the leader of a rebellion against The Wizard and Madame Morrible, while Glinda will be working with them in Emerald City. Elphaba and Glinda’s different approaches to the conflicts in Oz will drive a rift between the two friends. Additionally, they will both still be part of a love triangle with Fiyero. While Madame Morrible announces an engagement between Glinda and Fiyero in the Broadway musical, they don’t actually get married. This is why fans have been confused that Glinda can be seen in a wedding dress in some glimpses of Wicked: For Good.
Glinda’s Wicked 2 Wedding Dress Scene Is In A Dream Sequence – Theory Explained
Glinda & Fiyero Won’t Actually Get Married In Wicked: For Good
In the Broadway musical, Madame Morrible announces the engagement between Glinda and Fiyero to antagonize Elphaba and win over the people of Oz. However, she doesn’t actually tell Fiyero that she is going to make this announcement, which infuriates him. In the stageplay, Fiyero doesn’t actually want to marry Glinda, so the wedding never happens. Since Glinda and Fiyero don’t get married in the musical, including a wedding in Wicked: For Good would be a major change.
While Wicked: For Good will make some changes from Act II of the musical, I doubt that it will include a wedding between Glinda and Fiyero. Since Glinda can be seen wearing a wedding dress in footage of Wicked: For Good, fans have theorized that this is actually part of a dream sequence. Since Glinda has romantic feelings for Fiyero, it would make sense for her to dream about them getting married. However, these theories insist that the wedding will never actually happen in Wicked: For Good.
Why Wicked 2 Having A Real Wedding Scene For Glinda & Fiyero Would Be A Bad Idea
Glinda & Fiyero Getting Married In Wicked 2 Would Have Major Story Implications
While an actual wedding will probably not be included in Wicked: For Good, the love triangle between Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero will definitely be a major focus of the sequel. Fiyero will likely spend some time with Glinda in Emerald City before turning on The Wizard and joining Elphaba’s cause. CinemaCon footage of Wicked 2 actually showcases Fiyero betraying The Wizard and pointing a pistol at him. Fiyero will do this in the film after realizing that he agrees with Elphaba’s cause and that she is the one he truly loves.
Glinda and Fiyero getting married would create too many problems for Wicked: For Good’s story.
This moment is already heartbreaking enough for Glinda in the Broadway musical, but it would be made even worse if she and Fiyero actually get married. Glinda and Fiyero getting married would also complicate the relationship between him and Elphaba in Wicked: For Good. Therefore, including a wedding would be too big of a change from the musical, and it is not clear where it would even fit in the story. Overall, Glinda and Fiyero getting married would create too many problems for Wicked: For Good’s story.
Which Wicked 2 Song Glinda’s Wedding Dress Scene Could Take Place During
Glinda Will Have Several Musical Numbers In Wicked: For Good
While it is not a good idea to include an actual wedding in Wicked: For Good, it would make sense for Glinda to dream about marrying Fiyero. Therefore, her dreaming of marriage and singing and dancing in a wedding dress could be a really great moment in Wicked 2. It is not currently known when this dream sequence could take place, but fans have speculated that Glinda could be shown in a wedding dress while singing “I’m Not That Girl (Reprise).” Since this song is sung by Glinda after Fiyero runs off with Elphaba, this would make sense.
In addition to these musical numbers, Ariana Grande has also revealed that she will sing an original song as Glinda in Wicked: For Good.
However, Glinda’s wedding dream sequence would also make sense during the “Thank Goodness” musical number. In the Broadway musical, Glinda sings this song after it is announced that she is engaged to Fiyero. At this point in the story, Glinda tries to convince herself that she is happy, but questions whether she has made the right decisions. While this is a convincing theory, we will have to wait until the release of Wicked: For Good to see when and why Glinda is wearing a wedding dress in the film.
