Inside Out 3 Development Seemingly Confirmed By Star After Months Of Subtle Hints From $1.7B Pixar Sequel’s Team

While the studio has yet to properly announce it, Paul Walter Hauser seems to have confirmed Inside Out 3 is happening. The animated franchise explores Riley Anderson through various stages of life and portrays how emotions, including Joy and Anxiety, continue to guide her coming-of-age experiences. The first film was released in 2015 and became a commercial hit for Pixar, winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Nearly a decade later, Inside Out 2 again ignited the box office, generating close to $1.7 billion, and while another sequel appears imminent, Inside Out 3 has yet to be announced.

During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Paul Walter Hauser, who voiced Embarrᴀssment, seemingly confirmed that Inside Out 3 is being developed. The actor revealed, I heard we might be doing another one,” before commenting on how the films manage to reach wider audiences. Hauser explained how children can “grow with it as they get older,” and expressed graтιтude for Inside Out and other franchises, including Major League Wrestling and Marvel. Read Hauser’s comments below:

Crazy, it’s nutty. I heard we might be doing another one. I don’t know when or how or where, but the movie just resonated with people of all ages and it really, I think what’s different about the Inside Out movies from other animated films is it doesn’t really treat children as less intellectual beings. It really tells a funny, brilliant story, and they’ll grow with it as they get older, they’ll get some of the other jokes and it’ll find new resonance. So I just love getting to be a part of these worlds. I mean, you look at Pixar, Cobra Kai, I’m in the new Fantastic Four film. So Marvel and now MLW, it’s like I love joining these families and these sorts of cinematic universes that they are and getting to be some part of it. It’s been such a joy, man.

What Hauser’s Comments Mean For Inside Out 3

Another Sequel Seems More Likely

The latest comments by Hauser suggest that Inside Out 3 will be happening, but when Pixar will officially announce their plans for the franchise remains unclear. Given how successful the sequel became, momentarily topping all other animated movies prior to Ne Zha 2, and how well the spinoff Dream Productions performed on streaming, a third installment seems more and more likely. Dave Holstein, who co-wrote Inside Out 2, previously revealed to Screen Rant that Riley has more growing up to do, and appeared optimistic about future films and potentially revisiting Riley as a parent.

By introducing new emotions, including Anxiety and Embarrᴀssment, Inside Out 2 set an approach for additional sequels to follow. When the movie ends, Riley has started high school and another entry could take place shortly after that, exploring her social life and potential romances, or years later as she prepares to graduate. Regardless of the timeframe, Inside Out 3 would likely establish even more emotions that Joy and others have to cooperate with, and it will be interesting to see which ones are chosen.

Our Take On Inside Out 3’s Chances

It Could Be The Biggest Installment Yet

As Hauser explained, the Pixar franchise has an ability to impact many audiences, but watching Riley grow up and adjust to changing emotions may connect with younger viewers, facing similar experiences, in particular. While it has yet to be officially confirmed, Hauser’s comments are a positive sign for Inside Out 3. Considering how beloved the movies are already and how dominant the sequel was, it is not hard to imagine the sequel becoming an even bigger success upon release.
