A24‘s biggest horror hit has found a new home on a major streaming chart. The independent production company and film distributor was founded in 2012 and has since become a notable player, as marked by the fact that their sci-fi action movie Everything Everywhere All At Once won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2023. In general, A24 movies are known for their offbeat premises and auteur directors, which is a roster that includes Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), Sean Baker (The Florida Project), and Yorgos Lanthimos (The Killing of a Sacred Deer).
A24 horror movies in particular are some of their most popular offerings. They became known for the genre thanks to their output in the mid to late 2010s, which includes Robert Eggers’ The Witch and The Lighthouse, Ari Aster’s Hereditary and Midsommar, and Jeremy Saulnier’s Green Room. More recently, they have been behind genre offerings including the Hugh Grant religious thriller Heretic, Ti West’s slasher trilogy X, Halina Reijn’s dark comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies, and the new release horror-comedy Death of a Unicorn.

The A24 Horror Movie Was A Huge Success
2023’s Talk to Me is finding new success on Netflix. The Australian movie follows a grieving young woman (Sophie Wilde) who has a sinister experience with an embalmed hand that allows people to contact the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. It was a hit, becoming A24’s highest-grossing horror movie by earning $91.9 million against its $4.5 million budget, in addition to tying with X as their highest-rated horror тιтle on Rotten Tomatoes with a 94% score. That aggregated rating includes the 7 out of 10 score given to it by ScreenRant‘s own Mae Abdulbaki. Read an excerpt from her Talk to Me review below:
Talk to Me is every bit about grief as it is about being haunted. To that end, the film explores loss and the empty space it leaves behind following the death of a loved one. Mia is not alright, and the thrill of seeking out the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ — regardless of how scary it can be — sounds exciting. It allows her to feel things beyond heartache; it even makes her feel alive. The film gently handles Mia’s feelings, affording her the space to delve into her grief, while also showcasing the consequences of everyone’s actions. By the time the film concludes, viewers will walk away astounded by what they’ve just witnessed. It’s treacherous, gruesome, and heartbreaking all at once.
