Chris Pratt Addresses His Chair Not Appearing In Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday Cast Reveal And The MCU’s Promise That Star-Lord Will Return

Chris Pratt has addressed the promise that Star-Lord would return and why he was not among the names announced for Avengers: Doomsday. When Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ended, a traditional message for Marvel Cinematic Universe fans showed up on the screen, saying, “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return.” The most likely project for Pratt on the MCU’s movie slate seemed to be the next Avengers entry. However, Pratt’s name was not among those announced for Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast in the recent event Marvel live-streamed, and the actor has reacted to his absence.

Speaking with Collider, Chris Pratt confirmed that the goal is for Star-Lord to return, though he could not reveal where that would be, and the actor joked about how he was totally meant to be part of Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast announcement. According to the MCU actor, his chair must have been off-camera, and he does not know how that could have happened, poking fun at the fan debate over why Star-Lord was not announced for the MCU’s next Avengers movie. However, Pratt had no direct answer to his absence. Check out the full quotes below:

On Star-Lord’s MCU future: “I can’t say, for fans of mine, where they’ll see Star-Lord again, but I can tell them we made a promise at the end of [Guardians of the Galaxy] Vol. 3 that the legendary Star-Lord will return, and he will return.

On his Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement absence: “I don’t know! I think it was, like, far off… They must have cut away from it. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know. It was there. I’m sure it was there.”

What Chris Pratt’s Avengers: Doomsday And MCU Future Comments Mean

Star-Lord Is Still Part Of The Franchise’s Plan

While Pratt did not give a concrete answer to his Avengers: Doomsday status, the first part of the MCU actor’s comments are reᴀssuring. According to Pratt, the plan is still very much for him to continue as part of the franchise as Star-Lord, though where that could happen is currently a mystery. If Star-Lord is not in Avengers: Doomsday, given his absence from the cast announcement, there is always a chance that the hero could return in the team’s next outing, which would be 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars.

There is also a chance that Pratt’s Star-Lord could end up appearing in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor smartly deflected the question with a joke, so he has not actually revealed whether he is in the movie or not. While Marvel revealed several stars for the next Avengers movie, the official account for the studio teased with Doctor Doom actor Robert Downey Jr. on Instagram that more names could be announced for Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast. Pratt could be one of those, perhaps still negotiating his deal to return or part of a batch of actors who will start filming later.

The Next Avengers Movie Makes Sense For Star-Lord

Since Star-Lord is not part of the new Guardians of the Galaxy team, and I can’t see the MCU going for a solo project for the hero, I still believe that Pratt will be part of Avengers: Doomsday. With major characters like Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and the Hulk still missing from the announced cast, I feel confident that another round of reveals will come in the future, especially with Downey and Marvel Studios teasing something along those lines. Pratt’s comments confirm his commitment to returning as Star-Lord, and I think he was preserving a surprise Avengers: Doomsday announcement.
