James Gunn Shares Update On The Full Superman Movie Trailer Just Hours After Releasing DCU Sneak Peek

Following the release of the new footage, Gunn confirmed on Threads that he is “just finishing up the next trailer” for Superman, while clarifying that the 5-minute preview is more of a sneak peek.

DC Studios debuts a new Superman trailer featuring David Corenswet’s тιтular hero in the DC Universe. As the new DCU timeline got its start in 2024 with Creature Commandos, the franchise will now finally kick off its presence on the big screen with the new Superman movie, featuring Corenswet in the тιтular role. With Superman intended to set the foundation for the overall DCU, the anticipation for the summer blockbuster is incredibly high.

A five-minute preview of James Gunn’s Superman movie is set to be screened in front of A Minecraft Movie this week, and now DC Studios has shared the footage online, giving fans a new look at the DC Universe’s Man of Steel. Check it out below:

The Superman five-minute preview was also what attendees got to see at this year’s CinemaCon, which Gunn, Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran attended to promote the DCU installment. The Superman footage received a lot of praise from those in attendance.

What The Superman Extended Trailer Reveals

The Superman extended preview gives a deeper look at Corenswet’s beaten-up Man of Tomorrow, which was one of the big highlights from the first trailer back in December 2024. While the footage doesn’t confirm what or who he has battled, the dynamic between Superman and Krypto is highly established, with the Super-Dog being playful just like any other dog. However, it’s when Krypto helps Superman to the Fortress of Solitude that the DCU footage starts giving a good idea of how they are tackling the iconic mythology.

While including a classic crystalized Fortress of Solitude, Gunn’s Superman movie gives it a fresh look from its previous iterations in live-action movies and TV shows based on the Man of Steel. The inclusion of the Superman Robots also highlights how the DCU film is pulling from All-Star Superman, which Gunn has quoted numerous times as being a big source of inspiration. The extended trailer then showcases a lot of sH๏τs that were seen in the first Superman teaser.

Our Take On The Superman Extended Trailer

James Gunn's New Version of the Superman Movie Logo

Similar to the first Superman movie trailer, the new footage shows a lot of promise for the DCU’s take on Krypton’s last son, having a touch of previous live-action incarnations and bringing something new to the table. What remains to be seen now is how the other DCU players factor into Superman and how Gunn is utilizing them in this new franchise. Hopefully, as Superman is getting closer to its theatrical release, there will ideally be at least one more trailer before the DCU installment’s big summer debut.
