Amazing mosaic of the Villa Romana Del Casale.
Villa Romana del Casale

I very much enjoyed visiting the Villa Romana del Casale near Piazza Armerina, in the province of Enna. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, the Villa Romana dates back to the 4th century AD and presents an extraordinary collection of mosaic-decorated floors throughout its over sixty rooms. The mosaics are very well preserved and depict various subjects, from mythology to vibrant scenes of hunting and everyday life.
I was particularly impressed by the mosaic floor showing a group of girls in “ʙικιɴιs.” We were told that its discovery took place in the 1950s, when the fashion of this two-piece swimsuit was raging. At the time, the news caused a stir, so much so that some international newspapers wrote that, at this point, the primacy of the invention of the most controversial swimsuit in history should be attributed to the Romans living in the 4th century AD, and no longer to the French clothing designer Louis Réard. I recommend this visit for the beauty of the place itself and for the many surprises it reserves.
