Project Hail Mary CinemaCon Footage Shows Ryan Gosling As An Astronaut Preparing For An Earth-Saving Mission

Project Hail Mary footage is revealed at CinemaCon 2025. The upcoming science-fiction movie is based on a novel by Andy Weir, with Ryan Gosling playing the protagonist, astronaut Ryland Grace, who is on a mission to save humanity. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse‘s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller direct and executive produce the adaptation. The Gosling-led movie will be released on March 30, 2026.

Footage for Project Hail Mary has now been shared at Amazon MGM’s CinemaCon panel, where ScreenRant was in attendance. The footage shows Grace’s life as a middle school science teacher before he is recruited to be an astronaut for Project Hail Mary. His initial struggles as an astronaut are shown as well. Lord, Miller, and Gosling came on stage, and Gosling spoke about the project being “insanely ambitious.” Check out a description of the footage below:

It begins with a “knock knock” joke, then Ryan Gosling’s character Ryland Grace teaching his middle school science class. The first part of the teaser is Grace being recruited to save the world. He’s introduced to other scientists and questions them on their mission: Project Hail Mary. “It’s what you Americans will call a long sH๏τ,” says the Stratt. He responds, “Hail Mary.” We see several sH๏τs of Grace and the other scientists prepping for the mission. It culminates with Grace being recruited in the mission and complaining that he’s never done any space training. We see him on Earth and in space, with a beard after awaking on the mission. “This may be very hard for you to understand, but some people are not good at this.” The trailer ends with an AI saying, “Object approaching.” It’s Grace discovering an alien spaceship. Lots of jokes. “Anybody home?” Grace asks. Grace says into a camera, “So I met an alien.” We see a few sH๏τs of Grace in space and on Earth, mostly everyone working on the project. Gosling as Grace makes several jokes, like he does in the book.

What This Means For Project Hail Mary

It Appears To Be A Faithful Adaptation

Project Hail Mary‘s early footage is a promising sign of the movie being faithful to its source material. Gosling making jokes just as Grace does in the book bodes well, with Grace’s sense of humor being an essential part of his character and the story. At the same time, the footage in the science-fiction movie also captures the life-or-death stakes that Grace is facing, not only for himself, but for the future of all humanity and for the Earth itself.

Our Take On The Project Hail Mary Footage

It Has All The Ingredients To Be A Stellar Movie

For both those familiar with the source material and those experiencing the story for the first time, Project Hail Mary is poised to be a rewarding movie. It goes beyond the traditional elements of movies about space exploration with a story that is high-stakes, amusing, and deeply human. It has now moved up significantly in my list of most anticipated movies slated for 2026.
