Chris Hemsworth & Mark Ruffalo’s New Heist Movie Revealed Early In Crime 101 CinemaCon Sneak Peekem

A new footage description out of CinemaCon reveals a look at Crime 101. The crime movie will follow the story of Lou Lubesnick, a detective who is tracking down a jewel thief who is adhering to strict guidelines for a perfect heist. The star-studded film features a leading cast including Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Halle Berry, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Nick Nolte. It is directed by Bart Layton who co-adapted the script with Peter Straughan from a Don Winslow novel. Crime 101 does not yet have a release date, but was previously reported to premiere in 2025.

Now, new footage out of CinemaCon includes clips from Crime 101. The footage begins with Hemsworth’s character putting on gloves in his penthouse while on a date. The scene then transitions to a montage of Hemsworth committing crimes and Ruffalo investigating him and spreading the news to other detectives. Hemsworth is then seen working with Berry, who becomes his collaborator in a multi-million-dollar heist. Check out the full footage description below:

It begins with Hemsworth in a pent house, putting on gloves. Simultaneously, he seems to be on a date, who asks about his life. She asks if he’s ever worn cuffs, but he says not by choice. We see snippets of him robbing people, and Mark Ruffalo, presumably as a detective, investigating. After more action sH๏τs, we see Ruffalo explaining to other detectives that hundreds of robberies in the LA area have been conducted by the same guy. Then we see Hemsworth and Berry meeting each other, with him revealing what he does to her. She works for some of the people who he’s robbed. Ruffalo’s character uncovers a pattern, that Hemsworth’s robberies all occur along the 101 freeway. Together, Hemsworth and Berry’s characters plan a mᴀssive, multi-million dollar heist that they’d split. We see some of the other actors in the film, like Monica Barbaro. Towards the end of the teaser, Hemsworth pretends to be a driver and picks up Ruffalo. They have a brief discussion about classic Hollywood heist movies. They eye each other, as if they know who the other person really is. The teaser ends with Hemsworth getting into a car, saying you gotta know when to walk away.

What This Means For Crime 101

Hemsworth & Ruffalo’s Characters Will Have An Interesting Relationship

The footage description for Crime 101 hints at the interesting interplay this movie will have between its detective and its criminal characters. Towards the end of the description, Hemsworth is already seen interacting with Ruffalo, pretending to be a driver. How exactly Hemsworth knows that Ruffalo is a detective or how Ruffalo’s character will then come to figure out who Hemsworth is has yet to be revealed. This will make for an interesting dynamic in Crime 101, disrupting the usual separation between criminal and detective.

Furthermore, the Crime 101 description revealed one of the movie’s key conceits. As Ruffalo works to solve the crime, he discovers that “Hemsworth’s robberies all occur along the 101 freeway.” While part of the тιтle likely comes from the crime guidelines that Hemsworth is following, according to an earlier logline, the geographical position along the 101 makes the тιтle a play on words. Once Ruffalo discovers this pattern, the film will likely show him mapping out the crimes and scoping out the highway.

Our Take On The Crime 101 Footage

This Will Be A Good Chance For Ruffalo & Hemsworth To Act Together Again

Based on this early footage description, Crime 101 sounds like an interesting way for Ruffalo and Hemsworth to team up again after The Avengers movies. In the MCU, Hemsworth and Ruffalo played Thor and Hulk, respectively. While the superhero group occasionally had their own internal problems, the pair was generally on the same team in this universe. As such, Crime 101 will be an interesting way for them to be on opposite sides, while having a unique rapport when they do interact.
