Descendants 5 Has Started Filming, Disney Shares First BTS Cast PH๏τo

Descendants 5 has officially started filming, and Disney has shared its first set pH๏τo. The popular musical series chronicles the adventures of the children of some of Disney’s most famous villains (and some heroes). The TV movie series kicked off in 2015, and has since had four completed films. The most recent of these was 2024’s Descendants: Rise of the Red, which told the story of the Queen of Hearts’ daughter, Red, and Cinderella’s daughter, Chloe, who have to time travel to undo the Queen of Hearts’ villainous path. Descendants 5 was confirmed in February of this year.

Taking to Instagram, the official @disneydescendants account has shared the first set pH๏τo for the sequel. The image shows Chloe, Red, and more characters holding a film slate, indicating the production start. The caption further confirmed production, saying “Back at it.” No additional plot information was revealed at this time.

What This Means For Descendants 5

Smee’s Kids Are Visible

The Descendants 5 update may not have revealed more of the movie’s plot, but there are some things known about this next installment already. When the film was confirmed, they announced that Kylie Cantrall, Malia Baker, and Leonardo Nam would be reprising their roles. All of these cast members can be seen in the first pH๏τo. In addition to these returning characters, Descendants 5 will also be adding Brendon Tremblay as Maddox’s brother, Liamani Segura as Red’s Sister Pink, Alexandro Byrd as an Encanto spinoff character Luis Madrigal, and Kiara Romero as Captain Hook’s daughter.

A further update at the beginning of March revealed more cast members and their Disney universe characters. Joel Oulette will play Robin Hood’s son Robbie. Also joining the cast were Zavien Garrett, Ryan McEwan, and Dayton Paradis. Garrett will play Felix, the son of The Princess and the Frog character Dr. Facilier, and McEwan and Paradis will play Smee’s twin sons. Some of these new actors can be seen in the pH๏τo, giving a look at their costume designs. Smee’s sons are particularly noticeable, bookending the group with costumes that look right out of Peter Pan.

Our Take On This Descendants News

This Is A Good Sign For The Movie’s Release Date

King Charming and Cinderella embrace and smile in Descendants: Rise of Red

Descendants 5 does not yet have a release date, but the start of production hints that the movie could be coming sooner rather than later. This is big news for these movies, which have released four films over a decade-long period. There was a long gap between Descendants 3 and Descendants: Rise of the Red, as the franchise had a five-year hiatus. With the new movie already in production, the gap between these next Descendants movies is sure to be far shorter.
