Tom Hardy Would “Love” To Work With Christopher Nolan Again After Their Three Hit Movies

Tom Hardy expresses his enthusiasm towards working with Christopher Nolan again. Hardy previously worked with Nolan on three films, including Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, and Dunkirk. Since their last collaboration, Nolan has directed two completed movies. These included Tenet, which had a lackluster response to its 2020 release, and Oppenheimer, which went on to win Best Picture. Now, Nolan is currently adapting The Odyssey, while Hardy was in Venom: The Last Dance last year and is in MobLand and Havoc this year.

In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley for his new show MobLand, Hardy addresses the possibility of working with Nolan again. When asked whether he would like to pair up with the Dunkirk director a fourth time, he would “love to” but did not seem convinced that it would happen, noting, “you never know if he will or not.” Check out the exact quote from Hardy below:

“I’d love to work with Chris again, but you never know if he will or not.”

What This Means For Tom Hardy And Christopher Nolan

Nolan Has Star-Studded Movies

Nolan is known for collaborating with the same cast members, and that list has been gradually increasing. This list includes Hardy, Best Actor winner Cillian Murphy, and French actor Marion Cotillard. However, unlike directors like Wes Anderson, Nolan is less consistent about who he casts. A star may be a lead in one Nolan movie, and never appear in another (e.g. Matthew McConaughey). Another case would be that Nolan cast actors like Matt Damon, who played smaller roles in past films, and positioned them as leads, as he did with The Odyssey.

Hardy has a chance to work with Nolan again. For instance, The Dark Knight Rises co-star Anne Hathaway last collaborated with Nolan in 2014’s Interstellar and didn’t work with him for over a decade until recently with The Odyssey. In addition, Hardy has had memorable appearances in his movies, including his Bane portrayal and a key role as pilot Farrier in Dunkirk, so the director may have a lot of faith in him in general. However, in the meantime, if Hardy is ever considered for another Nolan movie, it probably won’t happen for another few years since the director is currently invested in The Odyssey.

Our Take On Tom Hardy Appearing In More Nolan Movies

Hardy Is An ᴀsset To His Films

Tom Hardy as Max in Mad Max: Fury Road

Hardy is one of the best actors that directors like Nolan can ask for. He may have only been nominated for a single Academy Award (for his supporting role in The Revenant), but he has sustained multiple impressive roles both in and outside Nolan’s oeuvre. Evidenced by his work in Mad Max: Fury Road and Venom, Hardy knows what it takes to carry a blockbuster film while also possessing the necessary tools to give nuanced performances. With their shared penchant for moneymaker movies, Hardy and Nolan would be a great duo to team up again.
