Coyote Vs. Acme: Confirmation, Cast, Story & Everything We Know

Based on the legendary Looney Tunes characters, Coyote vs. Acme brings the hilarious world of the Warner Bros. cartoons to life on the big screen. Adapted from a New Yorker story by Ian Frazier, Coyote vs. Acme follows the тιтular Wile E. Coyote as he takes the infamous ACME corporation to court over their inferior products. The movie blends the cartoon style of Looney Tunes with live-action, and it continues Warner Bros.’ exploration of the classic characters.

In the works since 2018, Coyote vs. Acme has seen several notable regime changes throughout its lengthy production process. Eventually, director Dave Green was tapped to lead the live-action and animation hybrid film, and he calls upon his previous experience as a director on movies like Earth to Echo from 2014 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows from 2016. The film was eventually completed in 2022, but it sat on the shelf for years before eventually being written-off completely. Fortunately, Coyote vs. Acme has finally been saved, and will see the light of day.

Ketchup Entertainment Scores The Distribution Rights

it remains to be seen if Ketchup Entertainment’s investment in the project will pay off, especially since the full cost of their marketing campaign won’t be known for some time.

Nearly a year after the film was officially shelved for the final time, the latest news confirms that Coyote vs. Acme will finally be released. Warner Bros.’s controversial decision to shelve the completed film caused an uproar in 2024, but the last update mentioned the studio was looking for a buyer. Now, Ketchup Entertainment has snatched up the hybrid film, and plans to give it a theatrical release all these years later. Ketchup recently released the equally troubled Looney Tunes film The Day the Earth Blew Up, and is reportedly paying upwards of $50 million for Coyote vs. Acme.

The Day the Earth Blew Up has only grossed around $10 million (via Box Office Mojo).

Though an exact release date isn’t known yet, the distributor is eyeing 2026 as the soonest the film could hit theaters. This is potentially a smart move on their part because it allows for a longer marketing and advertising window, something that was ignored for The Day the Earth Blew Up. However, it remains to be seen if Ketchup Entertainment’s investment in the project will pay off, especially since the full cost of their marketing campaign won’t be known for some time.

Ketchup Entertainment CEO Gareth West said:

We’re thrilled to have made a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures to bring this film to audiences worldwide. Coyote Vs Acme is a perfect blend of nostalgia and modern storytelling, capturing the essence of the beloved Looney Tunes characters while introducing them to a new generation. We believe it will resonate with both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Coyote Vs. Acme Production Status

Principal PH๏τography Wrapped In 2022

Coyote vs. Acme has had one of the strangest and most troubled productions in recent Hollywood memory, but there is finally a light at the end of the dark tunnel for the Looney Tunes movie. Principal pH๏τography wrapped in 2022, but the film has still not seen the light of day. Warner Bros. allowed the film to exist in limbo for years before finally shelving the project in the early months of 2024. This caused an uproar (as did the similar cancelation of Batgirl by WB), and calls to release the film saw the studio waffle on the issue for months. Eventually, they put the project up for sale in mid 2024.

It would take the better part of a year for a buyer to come forward, and Ketchup Entertainment bought the distribution rights to Coyote vs. Acme in March 2025. It can be ᴀssumed that the movie is completely or almost completely finished by this point, and the distributor has set 2026 as the likeliest release window.
