Bring Her Back Trailer Reveals Haunting New A24 Horror Movie From Talk To Me Directors

The first trailer for Bring Her Back has been revealed. The upcoming A24 horror movie is directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, whose previous work includes the 2023 feature Talk to Me. The latest feature follows the story of a brother and sister who discover a scary ritual at their new foster mother’s home. Bring Her Back features Sally Hawkins, Billy Barratt, Olga Miller, Johan Wren Phillips, and Sally-Anne Upton. It is co-written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman and is set for release on May 30.

Now, A24 has released the trailer for Bring Her Back.

The trailer begins in a terrifying place, with Hawkins’ character making video recordings of disturbing and unusual content. Then, it is revealed that Hawkins is a foster parent who has taken in a new child, giving her home three children in total. One of the kids seems to act suspicious, though the mystery is further highlighted by the foster mother, who seems to be involved in something nefarious all along.

What This Means For Bring Her Back

Talk To Me Could Propel The Movie To Success

The Bring Her Back trailer highlights how the horror movie will use varied film techniques, including VHS-style footage. This choice makes sense because Hawkins’ character is recording footage. But on a stylistic level, it also calls back to the found-footage style popularized by movies like The Blair Witch Project and V/H/S. Bring Her Back‘s visual style will help craft its tone and energy, making for a potentially viscerally disturbing film.

Combining this technique with the more standard filmmaking that typifies A24 movies could be a very smart way to bring in audiences. The Philippou brothers’ previous film, Talk to Me, did very well in theaters, making $91.9 million to become the studio’s third highest-grossing film of all time. This will already generate an existing audience base, but its reach will likely be extended because of the style popularized by the found-footage horror subgenre.

Our Take On The Bring Her Back Trailer

Will This Creepy Child Be Effective?

While it seems like the foster mother is mostly to blame for the film’s scares, Bring Her Back does play on the creepy child film trope. The new foster child is quiet, has a unique birthmark, and seems to engage in strange behavior, instilling a sense of danger. A24 has played on suspicious children before, most notably in Hereditary. As Bring Her Back comes to theaters at the end of next month, it will be interesting to see how the movie either leans into or disrupts this trope.
