I have been waiting years for Tom Hardy’s new action movie, Havoc, which will finally be released on Netflix next month, and it looks like it won’t disappoint. Tom Hardy has had a prolific career, appearing in 18 movies in a leading role, from Christopher Nolan collaborations to the the Venom movies. He had a brilliant debut in two war-related projects, the miniseries Band of Brothers and Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down, and has played roles in a wide range of genres since, with his most recent film being 2024’s Venom: The Last Dance.
Tom Hardy has done quite a few movies in the last couple of years, and while he shines in any genre, he can be particularly great in roles that combine drama and action. This includes his Nolan movies – Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, and Dunkirk – as well as many others. That being said, there has been a distinct lack of action movies in Tom Hardy’s filmography recently apart from Venom, which is what makes the long-awaited release of Havoc so exciting.
Why Tom Hardy’s Havoc Has Taken 4 Years, Despite Filming In 2021
Havoc Was Pushed Back Due To Strikes And Reshoots
Havoc is an upcoming Netflix movie starring Tom Hardy as a detective who must navigate a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s son while uncovering a web of conspiracies and corruption. The action thriller, which was written and directed by The Raid‘s Gareth Evans, commenced and finished filming in 2021 in Cardiff, Wales, but will only be released this year. This is because Havoc has experienced quite a few delays over the years that have pushed the movie back an astonishing four years. However, the reasons for Havoc’s delays were largely due to factors outside the film’s control.
Principal pH๏τography for Havoc began in July 2021 and filming officially wrapped in October. However, Gareth Evans confirmed the movie needed reshoots, which pushed back production. Still, Havoc’s reshoots were delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike in the latter half of 2023. Therefore, they did not manage to reshoot until the following year, when Evans posted an update on Instagram confirming the movie’s status. Officially concluding production in 2024, Havoc finally released its first image of Tom Hardy via Empire and announced that the action movie was scheduled to be released on Netflix on April 25, 2025.
Havoc Looks Like It Could Be One Of Tom Hardy’s Best Action Movies
The Trailer Showcases An Action-Packed Story
Despite the film’s unfortunate four-year delay, Havoc does look like it could be one of Tom Hardy’s best action movies. Director Gareth Evans has hyped Tom Hardy up as Havoc’s leading character, Walker, in an interview with Empire, explaining how “Tom came to us in f*cking beast mode. I tapped him on the shoulder and it was just like granite. He came fully physically prepared.” Furthermore, the director teased a few action scenes involving Tom Hardy in Havoc, giving us a glimpse of just what lies in store for the new movie.
“Tom came to us in f*cking beast mode. I tapped him on the shoulder and it was just like granite. He came fully physically prepared. Walker is not silky-smooth. He’s gonna cause as much carnage and as much mayhem as possible. He’s not grabbing your wrist and turning you into an arm lock. He’s grabbing you by the scruff of the neck and driving your face into the nearest heavy object.”
Tom Hardy has recently headed the Venom franchise, and he is certainly no stranger to action movies. However, Havoc looks to be on a different level entirely. The trailer is completely action-packed and shows Hardy at his best, battling in close quarters through some physically demanding scenes that haven’t really been seen by the actor before. Although Evans stated that the movie “was never going to be a martial-arts film,” the director’s descriptions of some of the fights to come certainly paint a picture of a good-quality action movie that will make the most of Tom Hardy’s skills.
It’s Going To Be A Good Month For Tom Hardy
Hardy Will Appear In 2 Lead Roles In April 2025
While there is plenty of excitement for Tom Hardy’s Havoc action movie, especially considering the actor hasn’t really featured in many action projects recently, aside from Venom, it is not the only project that Tom Hardy has in line for that month. Shortly before Havoc’s release on Netflix on April 25, 2025, Tom Hardy will also appear in the crime drama TV show MobLand. Technically, MobLand premiered on Paramount+ on March 30, 2025, with the release of episode 1 (“Stick or Twist”), but as it will release an episode weekly, the show will still be airing in April.

Written by Ronan Bennett (Top Boy, The Day of the Jackal), MobLand follows a London crime family called the Harrigans, who hire Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy) to be their “fixer” when they find themselves battling with the Stevensons. Joining Hardy in MobLand’s cast are the likes of Pierce Brosnan, Paddy Considine, and Helen Mirren, among others. As a result of his two coinciding projects, Tom Hardy will most likely dominate screens in the week commencing April 21 and April 28, 2025, as MobLand episode 5 and the long-awaited action movie, Havoc, will air just days apart from each other.
