The Beatles’ 4 Movie Plan Explained: Why All Four Movies Are Releasing In The Same Month

Filmmaker Sam Mendes is tackling The Beatles biopics in four separate movies, and there are some interesting details about how they’re being made. With a recent slew of musical biopics like Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocketman, and A Complete Unknown, it’s no surprise that someone is finally getting around to tackling The Beatles, one of the most influential and beloved music groups of all time.

Since it was announced that Mendes would be working on these films, speculation about the casting choices for each Beatle has swirled around. Screen Rant is present at CinemaCon 2025 and got an inside look at Sony’s presentation regarding the upcoming movies. Not only will there be a film for each Beatle, Paul McCartney (Paul Mescal), John Lennon (Harris Dickinson), Ringo Starr (Barry Keoghan), and George Harrison (Joseph Quinn), but the studio is also approaching them with a daring release strategy.

Sam Mendes Is Making Four Different Movies About The Beatles

Each Beatle Will Have A Film From Their Perspective

Sam Mendes, the filmmaker behind celebrated тιтles like American Beauty and 1917, is tackling each of the Beatles biopics, and each of the aforementioned actors will appear in all four movies. However, rather than cramming four complicated real-life figures into one movie, each Beatle is getting their own тιтle with its own distinct perspective. Consider Oliver Stone’s The Doors, for example, which told the story of a famous band but only focused on lead singer Jim Morrison.

Sam Mendes’s strategy is fascinating, and it’s perfectly suited for The Beatles. There are few other bands in history where there’s been such a mᴀss craze surrounding each individual member. Every fan of the band has their own favorite from the group, and those opinions are usually backed by dozens of facts and pieces of speculation. These four films will reignite that fire, offering fresh, dramatized perspectives on each man.

Why Sony Is Releasing All Four The Beatles Movies In April 2028

The Beatles Films Will Be An Ambitious Theatrical Event Experience

As mentioned, Sony has a fascinating plan to release these movies, with all four coming out in the same month. April 2028 will be the return of Beatlemania, with all four feature-length tiles available to be watched around the same date. This is an ambitious and risky release strategy, but it could pay off due to the creation of an event-like cinematic experience, much like the combined viewings of Barbie and Oppenheimer for 2023’s “Barbenheimer.”

Sony is billing this strategy as the “first binge-able theatrical experience.” Much like how viewers can watch an entire season of a TV show released on Netflix in one day, a movie-goer could hypothetically watch all four Beatles films sequentially. It’s unclear if there’s any particular order to see them in, but it seems like it will be up to the viewer’s choice.
