Scheduling a sequel one year after its predecessor is virtually unheard of. While Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse were initially devised as a single movie and later split into two, each sequel became its own full-length movie with its own script shortly after. Naturally, both sequels require a full movie’s worth of development, pre-production, production, and distribution. Whether Sony’s temporary 2025 slot was planned for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the MCU’s Spider-Man 4, or a now-canceled installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is still unknown.

Unlike most animated projects, the Spider-Verse movies employ dozens of animation styles simultaneously — each of them requiring intricate attention to detail and their own tailor-made approach to help them coexist with the others.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse had the largest animation crew in movie history, with more than a thousand animators working on the movie’s various animation styles and larger-than-life action scenes. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is aiming to raise the bar even further, meaning that it may have an even bigger crew and even more ambitious sequences than Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
