Disney’s Snow White remake had another disastrous weekend at the box office, and it’s made even worse when looking at Disney’s history with live-action remakes at the box office. The 2025 reimagining starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot has been the subject of scrutiny and controversy for some time. The negative press from Snow White‘s controversies played a role in box office projections declining as the release got closer. Any hope Disney had that general audiences would help lift the film disappeared in the opening weekend.
The start of Snow White‘s box office performance was not great, even though it did manage to make $87.3 million worldwide in its first three days. This brought increased concerns about the film’s ability to be a long-term option for audiences in theaters. Snow White‘s second weekend box office drop was even worse than anticipated following the continued discourse. With review bombing taking place and some viewers potentially just waiting for it to stream on Disney+, the movie’s box office compared to Disney’s other live-action remakes is becoming increasingly troubling.

Overall, Disney has had 19 live-action remake movies get a theatrical release domestically. Snow White is in the middle of the pack due to its opening weekend. It beat several of Disney’s earliest live-action reimaginings like 101 & 102 Dalmatians or The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, as well as movies from the modern era like Mufasa: The Lion King. The latter was Disney’s last live-action remake before Snow White and had tremendous legs, making $719M worldwide at the end of its run. That could have given Disney some optimism that a similar path to success could exist for Snow White.
Snow White’s Second Weekend Box Office Drop Compared To Disney’s Live-Action Remakes
It Set A Brand New Record
Unfortunately for Disney, Snow White‘s second weekend at the box office domestically was quite poor. The movie came in below projections of a $20 million weekend. Snow White only made an estimated $14.2 million during its second weekend domestically, falling to #2 in the box office charts behind Jason Statham’s action movie A Working Man ($15.2M).
After making $42.2 million in its opening weekend, Snow White‘s second weekend box office dropped by 66.4%. That is a new record low for Disney’s live-action remakes. The previous record holder was Dumbo, which dropped 60.4% in 2019. The record drop is the exact opposite of what Disney saw with Mufasa: The Lion King a few months ago, as the prequel had a 3.94% increase in its second weekend.

Snow White is now the third Disney live-action remake with a second weekend drop of over 60%, joining Dumbo and The Lion King. The major difference here is that Snow White is closer to being a 70% drop than it is a 60% drop. It didn’t just barely break the previous record drop. It shattered the low point for these movies with its disappointing second weekend. It’s now the sixth Disney live-action remake not to repeat as #1 at the box office.
How Much Snow White Has Made At The Box Office Vs. Disney’s Live-Action Remakes
Snow White Is Falling Behind Disney’s Other Movies
With a second weekend drop like this, it’s evident that Snow White is losing ground at the box office faster than any other Disney live-action remake. Currently, Snow White has made $66.8 million domestically. It has the ninth-lowest box office total compared to every other remake at the same point. This only considers domestic totals, as international releases vary per film and are more difficult to track.

The movies that most resemble Snow White‘s performance to this point are Dumbo and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. It trails Tim Burton’s remake by roughly $10 million at the same point in time, while it’s almost identical to Angelina Jolie’s sequel. That could be telling when it comes to predicting Snow White‘s final box office total. Dumbo made $353 million worldwide by the end of its run, and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil pulled in $491 million. They are the tenth and eleventh highest grossing Disney live-action remakes as a result.
Snow White is currently well behind both of those totals, as its worldwide total is $143 million. But, Dumbo and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil were much bigger hits overseas than domestically. There’s a chance that the same happens for Snow White, as the international total is growing more than domestically. However, that result is still unlikely to save the movie from being a major disappointment after its mᴀssive $200+ million budget.
