One of the most exciting stories from Marvel Comics could be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)
in Avengers: Doomsday
. For most of the time that the MCU has been in existence, the franchise has not been able to access and use certain characters from the Marvel Comics. In fact, these restrictions were a bit part of the reason they used lesser-known or less popular heroes like Iron Man and Captain America to launch the franchise. However, when Marvel Studios was acquired by Disney, one of the biggest entertainment companies in existence, it slowly regained the rights to its most popular heroes, like the X-Men.
And now, with the Avengers firmly established as the leading hero team in the Sacred Timeline, fans are anxiously awaiting the moment that the X-Men make their big debut, and potentially face off against the Avengers. And after the cast list announcement for Avengers: Doomsday, it seems like the pieces are all in place for Marvel Studios to put an Avengers vs. X-Men story on the big screen. But this will also have a huge knock-on effect for the rest of the MCU, and potentially define the next era of film and TV shows coming from the studio.

The X-Men Are Making A Comeback In The MCU With Avengers: Doomsday
While the cast list reveal for Avengers: Doomsday was unconventional, it also built up an overwhelming amount of anticipation and excitement over the five-and-a-half hour live stream. Names of actors set to join the cast of Avengers: Doomsday were gradually revealed one by one, with 13-minute intervals in between. However, things got really interesting in the last half of the stream when the names of the original X-Men actors began appearing.

Initially, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen’s names appearing was a huge moment for the stream, but as more actors from the Fox X-Men universe kept coming, it became clear that the movie would very likely establish a team of mutants who may be at odds with the Avengers and other heroes. Alongside the leader of the X-Men, Professor X, and his former friend and rival, Magneto, three more familiar faces from the original trilogy were announced, along with a surprise addition who is very likely to join their team, Channing Tatum’s Gambit.
This team is not the exact same lineup as has ever been seen before in the Fox movies, but it certainly hints at something big that will involve this superhero team. And looking forward to the enemy of this film, Doctor Doom, and the тιтle for the subsequent release, it appears as though the movie will set the stage for an epic battle. However, looking back at a less popular entry in the Multiverse Saga actually provides insight into how this all happened in the first place.
The Marvels Confirmed Why The Fox X-Men Are In Doomsday
The X-Men Have Already Made Their Entrance In The MCU
The Marvels has been hailed as one of the worst MCU movies from the franchise to date. Now, a part of that is down to a lot of negative PR before the movie was released, and a general disconnect between some fans of the MCU and the star, Brie Larson. However, The Marvels did reveal some important details that could connect to Avengers: Doomsday and explain how the X-Men have come to be in the 616 universe.
In the post-credits scene of The Marvels, Monica Rambeau is seen waking up in what appears to be some sort of medical facility. When she begins to regain consciousness, she notices a woman in the chair beside her, who looks remarkably like her mother, Maria Rambeau. However, the woman has no idea who Monica is. Then, the Beast, played by Kelsey Grammar, who previously appeared in the role in X-Men: The Last Stand, appears, calling Maria Binary, and referencing Professor X. This was clearly the moment these characters began making their way to the Marvel Universe, despite Lashana Lynch and Teyonah Parris not being announced for Doomsday just yet.
The Marvels made it clear that there was something happening to blur the lines between realities. Monica, aka PH๏τon, has managed to break into another timeline, one where mutants appear to be prominent. In other words, this was an incursion, with two sets of realities colliding and a person from one timeline being sent to another. Now, Beast and Professor X are on their way to 616, with Binary and Monica likely following close behind.

Avengers Vs. X-Men Will Lead To Some Huge Changes In The MCU
While these incursions have appeared to have minimal side effects so far, Loki’s solo TV show, Loki, revealed why incursions can be bad, and what the fallout of these realities colliding together may be. While Loki became the god of stories, and Doctor Strange was able to patch some holes in reality, it appears that the walls between universes are crumbling fast. Accidental occurrences like Monica being sent to another reality may become more common, and these incursions could threaten to cause apocalyptic levels of destruction.
While Loki became the god of stories, and Doctor Strange was able to patch some holes in reality, it appears that the walls between universes are crumbling fast.
For instance, with 616 colliding with an X-Men timeline, it’s possible that this event could trigger a major conflict that would lead to the winners getting to keep their timeline intact, while the losers either see their reality destroyed, or get sent home just in time for their worlds to end. Neither option is very nice, and unless the heroes can find some miracle to avoid the breakdown of the timelines even further, or they manage to co-exist, things look increasingly precarious for the heroes of the MCU.
Avengers: Doomsday will likely put a focus on Doctor Doom in a similar way to how Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame focused on Thanos. By focusing on the villain, it provides a central pillar for the story to revolve around, and since Doom will be causing havoc for everyone, it makes sense for his character to be more prominent. However, the heroes are not going to simply lie down and take punishment from this tyrant. Instead, Avengers: Doomsday will set the stage for the explosive finale that will be Avengers: Secret Wars, with heroes like the Avengers and the X-Men potentially fighting it out, or settling their differences and working as a team.
