“It’s Very Rewarding:” The Fantastic For: First Steps’ Joseph Quinn Addresses Avengers: Doomsday Casting Announcement

The Fantastic Four: First Steps star Joseph Quinn recently opened up about joining the expansive cast of Avengers: Doomsday. Revealed over the course of a five-hour livestream, the roster for the next MCU crossover includes not only Quinn and his Fantastic Four teammates, but also a whole host of major Marvel stars, including: Robert Downey Jr., Simu Liu, Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, Leтιтia Wright, Winston Duke, and many more. The big surprise of the event was the return of several cast members from the early ’00s X-Men trilogy, such as James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Quinn, who will play Johnny Storm/Human Torch, expressed his excitement at being included in such a mᴀssive project—and not having to keep it secret anymore. The actor stated: “It’s very rewarding; It’s very relieving that they want to have us back for Avengers.” Per Quinn, the cast “had a great time making Fantastic Four.” He then praised his costars, adding: “They’re a wonderful gang of brilliant… Bonkers actors. And we all really mucked in and created a family environment.

Quinn also stressed the importance of not taking his role with Marvel for granted. He explained: “You never know ’cause we’re new to the old MCU world, aren’t we? […] So it’s nice that they want to have us back. it doesn’t feel like we’ve totally burnt it to the ground.

What Joseph Quinn’s Comments About Avengers: Doomsday Mean

Quinn’s enthusiasm paints a very positive picture of his experience so far working with Marvel and with his costars, Vanessa Kirby, Pedro Pascal, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The actor shared a playful exchange with Daredevil: Born Again star Michael Gandolfini wherein they compared their MCU projects’ group chats:

Joseph Quinn: Does Daredevil have a group chat?

Michael Gandolfini: […] Yeah, they love me in Daredevil. […] We do. The

Devils.

Joseph Quinn: Is it called The Devils?

Michael Gandolfini: It is, yeah. Do you have a group chat with the Fantastic Four?

Joseph Quinn: Yeah, it’s called ABBA. Don’t try me. Yes. Yeah, we’ve got a group chat. It’s popping off.

Quinn’s relationship with his costars and excitement to be in the MCU make his inclusion in Doomsday all the more intriguing. Fantastic Four does not release until this July, but his being in the cast of the next Avengers film tells audiences a couple of things. Firstly, Johnny most likely survives the former. Secondly, as suspected, the Fantastic Four will probably encounter a multiversal threat and/or have explicit ties to the MCU version of Doctor Doom.

Our Take On Joseph Quinn’s Comments About Avengers: Doomsday

The Fantastic Four is known as Marvel’s first family for a reason; their bonds, both by blood and not, set them apart from most of the brand’s other teams. Quinn’s affection towards his cast mates might just lend itself to that kind of onscreen chemistry. Regardless, audiences eagerly await meeting his version of the Human Torch in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and seeing where the team goes next in Avengers: Doomsday.
