Bollywood’s biggest superhero saga is moving forward with Krrish 4, and this time, franchise star Hrithik Roshan will be going behind the scenes. India’s pioneering superhero universe launched in 2003 with Koi… Mil Gaya, followed by Krrish (2006) and Krrish 3 (2013). Each chapter expands the world of Rohit Mehra (Roshan), a masked hero with superhuman abilities inherited from an alien encounter. The Krrish franchise is a pop culture landmark and a technical trailblazer in Indian cinema, amᴀssing $101 million since its debut. Krrish 4 is set to begin production in early 2026.
According to Variety, Roshan will make his directorial debut with Krrish 4 while reprising his role as the тιтular hero. The film will be produced by Yash Raj Films under producer Aditya Chopra, in collaboration with franchise creator Rakesh Roshan. Roshan, who directed the previous three films, announced that he’s officially pᴀssing the baton to his son. Read what he had to say below:
I’m pᴀssing the baton of the director of ‘Krrish 4’ to my son, Hrithik Roshan, who has lived, breathed and dreamt about this franchise since its inception with me. Hrithik has a clear and a very ambitious vision of taking Krrish’s journey forward with the audience for the next decades. I couldn’t be more prouder to see him wear the director’s hat for a film that means the world to us as a family.
It brings me so much joy to see someone like Adi as the producer of ‘Krrish 4.’ It was he who convinced Hrithik to sit in the director’s chair. Adi and Yash Raj Films have the knowledge, understanding and technological might to produce this film and add great value to this project.
What This Means For Krrish 4
The Hindi Superhero Continues Its Legacy
Krrish 4 is a generational shift for the franchise. Hrithik first stepped behind the camera at 17, working as an ᴀssistant director to his father on Karan Arjun. Having portrayed both Rohit and Krishna Mehra throughout the Hindi trilogy, Hrithik has led this world for over two decades and now takes over his father’s longstanding commitment as director. Rakesh Roshan noted that it was producer Aditya Chopra who ultimately convinced Hrithik to take on the dual responsibility of acting and directing for Krrish 4—a move that brings together two of Bollywood’s most influential film dynasties.
Aditya Chopra, who leads YRF, is one of the most successful producers in Indian cinema history, having backed mᴀssive early 2000s blockbusters like Hum Tum, Dhoom, and Veer-Zaara, and more recently Netflix’s historical drama Maharaj. The Roshan family’s legacy is also deeply entrenched in Bollywood history, tracing back to the late Roshan Lal Nagrath—also known as Roshan Saab—an iconic music composer whose artistic lineage flourished through filmmakers and actors Rakesh Roshan, Rajesh Roshan, and now Hrithik Roshan.
Our Take On Krrish 4
The Franchise Is Ready For A Comeback
It’s been over a decade since Krrish 3, but the appeтιтe for India’s homegrown superhero has never waned. Letting Hrithik Roshan direct Krrish 4 is a great way to reinvigorate the superhero franchise. The actor-director knows this character and the hero’s evolution better than anyone. With a cohesive creative vision and the resources of Yash Raj Films backing him, Krrish 4 might finally push the series to the international success the Roshans have long dreamed of.
