Only One Main Sonic The Hedgehog Character Hasn’t Had Their Own Movie & It Breaks My Heart To Say It

Of all the video game characters featured in the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action series, only one of them has not been the focus of their own movie. Concerning the video game characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, the stories have certainly done them justice. Many of the coolest introductions in the Sonic movies have been given to video game characters, with each one showcasing the powers of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Amy Rose.

However, by the time of Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s ending, I realized a sad fact about one of these characters in particular. Although this sad issue could be rectified in Sonic the Hedgehog 4‘s story, something makes me worried it will not be. The sad fact in question was that all of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie characters that were originally from the video game have received a story to be the focus – all except one.

Tails Hasn’t Been A Focal Point In Any Sonic The Hedgehog Movie (The Others All Have)

The Lovable Fox Has Not Had His Time To Shine

Throughout the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action franchise thus far, only Tails has been neglected as a focal point of any one story. Naturally, 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog focused on the тιтular blue speedster, with Ben Schwartz’s character being the only video game hero in that movie. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 then placed more of a focus on Knuckles than Tails, despite the latter being teased in the post-credits scene for the first movie.

Tails has been relegated to a supporting role, never being a true focal point in the way Sonic, Knuckles, or Shadow have…

As one of the film’s main villains and later an ally of Sonic, Knuckles was a much bigger character than Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and that is without mentioning his own standalone TV series. Then there was Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which focused on Shadow the Hedgehog in the same way the second movie centered on Knuckles. Throughout the entire trilogy, Tails has been relegated to a supporting role, never being a true focal point in the way Sonic, Knuckles, or Shadow have.

I Worry About Tails Being Sidelined In Sonic The Hedgehog 4

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Teased Two Bigger Characters Than Tails

While Sonic the Hedgehog 4 could place a bigger focus on Tails, I have to admit that the film is unlikely to do so. The post-credit scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 teased two other mᴀssive video game characters would be part of the sequel: Amy Rose and Metal Sonic. Based on how Knuckles and Shadow were treated in previous movies, I worry Tails is yet to take another backseat in favor of further exploring Amy Rose and Metal Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. This is, admittedly, an incredibly sad reality.

Tails has always been one of my personal favorite Sonic characters, ever since I played various installments of the game series as a child. For this reason, I was excited to see Tails being set up as a big part of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Although I loved that film and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, I could not shake the disappointment that Tails is still the only character without a movie or show that truly focused on him. To make matters worse, I doubt the fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie will do so either, no matter how excited I am for it.
