The new Jason Statham movie has kicked off a solid Popcornmeter streak for the star on Rotten Tomatoes. The actor, who is best known for action movies such as Wrath of Man, The Beekeeper, and Parker, in addition to various installments in franchises including Fast and Furious, The Meg, Crank, The Transporter, and The Expendables. Collectively, the star’s movies have grossed more than $8.4 billion at the box office worldwide, with the highest-grossing being 2015’s Furious 7 ($1.512 billion).
However, Jason Statham action movies are not always beloved by critics. While he has earned his fair share of Fresh scores with some of his movies even being officially Certified Fresh, including Furious 7 (82%) and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (75%), his Rotten Tomatoes splats outnumber his successes. He has so far earned 32 Rotten scores on the review aggregator platform, ranging from 2012’s Safe (59%) to 2007’s In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (4%).
A Working Man’s Popcornmeter Score Kicks Off An Incredible Streak
It Is Appealing To Audiences On Rotten Tomatoes
A Working Man is succeeding with audiences. The new David Ayer movie, which stars Statham as a construction worker trying to stop a kidnapping, is projected to debut at No. 1 at the domestic box office, dethroning Disney’s Snow White during the live-action remake’s sophomore weekend. However, the Statham movie did not win over critics, as A Working Man reviews collectively earned it a Rotten 53% score on Rotten Tomatoes. This includes the 5 out of 10 review from ScreenRant‘s own Mary Kᴀssel. Read an excerpt from Kᴀssel’s writeup below:
It doesn’t take an active imagination to see where the future of A Working Man is going. A few plots are left unresolved. Levon still has to win custody of his young daughter, paving the way for a sequel or two if the film makes a profit. Statham has proved himself an ᴀsset at the box office, and when it comes to movies like A Working Man, a critical reception has little to do with the project’s performance. It’s a mindless good time, and I’ll be interested to see where the franchise goes.
Now that the movie has debuted in theaters, Rotten Tomatoes has been able to aggregate an official Popcornmeter score from more than 250 verified user reviews. While the score could fluctuate as more reviews are added, at the time of writing, A Working Man has earned a dazzling 92% score, which is nearly 40 full points higher than what critics have given it on the Tomatometer. Additionally, while critics gave it an average score of 5 out of 10, audiences are averaging out at a far superior 4.2 out of 5.
