Black Panther 3 Director Addresses Denzel Washington Appearing In MCU Movie And How Long The Wait Will Be For The Wakanda Forever Sequel

Director Ryan Coogler acknowledges Denzel Washington’s MCU debut in Black Panther 3. Following Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s optimistic ending and its farewell to the late Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa, the MCU’s likelihood of completing a full Black Panther trilogy seemed high. Soon after, Black Panther 3 was confirmed, with Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler returning at the helm. On top of that, Denzel Washington revealed he’s joining Black Panther 3, though his participation in the upcoming MCU movie hasn’t been officially addressed by Marvel Studios yet.

Speaking to Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson in an episode of the Nightcap show, Black Panther 3 director Ryan Coogler confirmed the wait for Black Panther 3 is “not long” and addressed Denzel Washington’s first MCU role in Coogler’s upcoming Marvel movie. Coogler doesn’t reveal which character Denzel Washington will play in Black Panther 3, but he raises anticipation for the legendary star’s Black Panther 3 role, saying he’s “dying to work with Denzel” and praising Washington as an actor and as a person. Check out Ryan Coogler’s full comments below:

“Yeah, I’ve been dying to work with Denzel, man, and I’m hoping we can make that happen. I have every intention of working with him in that movie. As long as he itches to do it, it’s gonna happen. You know, he’s a living legend and a great mentor for so many of us. He’s all about looking out for us now.”

Denzel Washington Is Very Likely To Be Working On Black Panther 3

Denzel Washington himself was the person who first mentioned his involvement in Black Panther 3. So far, neither Ryan Coogler nor Marvel Studios have made an official statement specifically announcing Denzel Washington’s casting in Black Panther 3. But at this point, it would be surprising if Black Panther 3‘s cast were revealed and Denzel Washington wasn’t in it. The fact that both Washington and Coogler have openly talked about Washington’s role suggests that Marvel is waiting for Black Panther 3 to advance in development a little more in order to provide official updates.

Ryan Coogler is close to Denzel Washington, and Washington was very close to Chadwick Boseman. Washington sponsored Chadwick Boseman’s acting career, and Boseman thanked Washington at the American Film Insтιтute’s Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony in 2019, saying, “There is no Black Panther without Denzel Washington.” Black Panther 3 featuring Denzel Washington in a major role will be a natural way to pay homage to Washington and Boseman’s real-life bond.

Our Take On Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 3 Comments

Denzel Washington’s Black Panther 3 Role May Be An Important Marvel Character

Some time after Denzel Washington revealed he was joining Black Panther 3, Marvel executive producer Nate Moore addressed Washington’s possible role, making it clear that Washington’s casting wasn’t official yet, but also suggesting that his character would be carefully chosen and written. Denzel Washington’s MCU character could be either a lesser-known hero or villain with a close connection to T’Challa or a famous Marvel character who might become influential to the franchise in Black Panther 3.
