Legend Of Zelda Live-Action Movie Release Date Revealed After Nintendo Promised It Would Release In This Decade

The release date has been revealed for the Legend of Zelda live-action movie. The first installment in the Legend of Zelda video game series was released in 1986 and has gone on to be one of the most beloved video game franchises of all time. The series has also extended to interpretation in other media, including a cartoon series, comic books, and board games. The most recent installment was released on the Ninendo Switch in 2024. A live-action movie was first announced in November 2023. It will be helmed by Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball.

As per Sony Pictures and Nintendo, the Legend of Zelda movie release date has been announced. The film is set to release in theaters on March 26, 2027. The announcement was made via the Nintendo Today app, confirming the release date. The movie will be produced by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad.

This news comes after Nintendo had provided a vague release window update in November 2024. About a year after the live-action movie’s initial announcement, the company said that the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie was set for release in 202X. This meant that the company intended to produce the film this decade, with the latest possible year being 2029. At the time, this gave Nintendo up to five years to come up with the film, but per the most recent update, it seems they will be able to finish the movie in just about two years from now.

While Nintendo is still primarily focusing its efforts on the gaming industry, their foray into film in recent years has been significant. In 2023, the group put out the animated film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which made over $1.3 billion, becoming the second-highest grossing movie of that year. An unтιтled sequel film is planned for release in 2026. With The Legend of Zelda live-action movie now coming out in 2027, Nintendo will have two back-to-back years of major theatrical releases based on their games.

Our Take On The Legend Of Zelda Movie Release Date

It Is Good For Nintendo To Take Its Time

In a world inundated with video game adaptations, it is comforting to know that Nintendo is not rushing this one. While two years still gives audiences plenty of time to wait for The Legend of Zelda live-action, it will hopefully give the studios time to make sure they are making a movie worthy of its decades of reputation. Given the avid fan base and important history in the gaming industry, the movie could still be subject to scrutiny, but the release window is still hopeful.
