A24’s Talk to Me is the company’s most successful horror movie, making $91.9 million worldwide, which is $11 million more than the company’s next highest-grossing horror film, Hereditary. Directed by Danny and Michael Philippou in their feature directorial debuts, 2023’s Talk to Me tells the story of teenagers discovering they can contact spirits by grasping a severed and embalmed hand. However, if they hold it too long, they risk allowing the spirits access to bind themselves to that person and take control.
When one of the young adults in Talk to Me holds the severed hand for too long, that is exactly what happens, and then the bodies start piling up. In addition to the big box office totals, critics also praised the film, awarding it a 95% Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score, with the Popcornmeter (the audience score) at a high 83% Fresh. Most of the praise went to the practical effects and the fast-paced, unpredictable story, making it a perfect option for horror fans looking to stream a scary movie at home.
