April 2025 is packed with movies from different genres releasing in theaters, and among them is another horror version of Mickey Mouse, a movie based on a popular video game, a slasher comedy, a vampire movie, and more. 2025 has had a great start when it comes to movies released in theaters, and though it has obviously had its lows, so far it’s continuing the good streak of 2024. After a couple of weak weeks in theaters with movies that didn’t perform well (but weren’t necessarily bad), April is bringing some anticipated movies along with some interesting stories.

March 2025 brought movies like Bong Joon-Ho’s sci-fi black comedy Mickey 17, Steven Soderbergh’s spy thriller Black Bag, the Looney Tunes’ movie The Day the Earth Blew Up, the action comedy Novocaine, Disney’s live-action version of Snow White, the crime drama Alto Knights, and the action thriller A Working Man. Now, April is bringing a mix of horror, drama, fantasy, and comedy, with a Mickey Mouse horror movie, a double dose of Michael B. Jordan, more horror movies, a long-awaited sequel, and more.

Screamboat

Screamboat is a comedy horror movie by Steven LaMorte and part of the still-ongoing trend of horror movies based on the short film Steamboat Willie. Screamboat takes the audience to a late-night ferry ride in New York City, where the pᴀssengers will live a real nightmare. Among them are five friends, all of them based on famous Disney princesses, and they all come across a murderous and mischievous mouse who, even though he’s tiny, sees no problem in killing whoever he wants.

A Minecraft Movie

A Minecraft Movie is the latest movie based on a video game. Directed by Jared Hess, A Minecraft Movie is based on the popular 2011 video game Minecraft, and has an all-star cast. A Minecraft Movie follows Garret “The Garbage Man” (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers), and Dawn (Danielle Brooks), four misfits who are suddenly pulled through a portal into the Overworld. This is a strange, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination, but returning to the human world won’t be easy.

The group will have to protect this world from zombies and other creatures and embark on a magical quest with an expert crafter named Steve (Jack Black). This will challenge them all to be bold and reconnect with what makes them uniquely creative. Also starring in A Minecraft Movie are Jennifer Coolidge, Rachel House, Matt Berry, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement.

Freaky Tales

Freaky Tales is an action movie written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Freaky Tales follows a corrupt cop, an NBA star, a female rap duo, a debt collector, teenage punks, and neo-Nazis in four interconnected stories set in 1987 Oakland, California, and they will all embark on a collision course in a fever dream of showdowns and battles. The cast of Freaky Tales is full of familiar faces, with talents like Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, Dominique Thorne, Jay Ellis, Angus Cloud, Jack Champion, Tom Hanks, and a lot more.

Hell of a Summer

Hell of a Summer Will Be Released On April 4, 2025

Hell of a Summer is a comedy horror movie directed by Finn Wolfhard and Billy Byrk, who also star in it. Hell of a Summer takes the audience to Camp Pineway, where the counselors are getting everything ready the night before the campers arrive. Among them is 24-year-old counselor Jason Hochberg (Fred Hechinger), who, even though he’s way older than the other counselors, insists on returning every year. Hochberg feels out of touch with his teenage co-workers, but they all come together when a masked killer targets them.

Drop

Drop Will Be Released On April 11, 2025

Drop is a mystery thriller film directed by Christopher Landon. Drop follows Violet (Meghann Fahy), a widowed mother who goes on a date with Henry (Brandon Sklenar). During her date, Violet begins to get threatening messages from a mysterious source, warning her about how her night is about to turn ᴅᴇᴀᴅly. The messages escalate with videos and pH๏τos of Violet’s son and his babysitter at home, proving that whoever is messaging her is being serious – but Violet can’t ask for help.

The Amateur

The Amateur Will Be Released On April 11, 2025

The Amateur is a spy thriller movie directed by James Hawes. The Amateur centers on Charles Heller (Rami Malek), a CIA cryptographer whose life takes a turn when his wife is killed in a terrorist attack. When his supervisors refuse to take action, Charles decides to do so himself, though he’s not trained to be a killer. Charles wants to find and face his wife’s killers, and his biggest strength will be his intelligence and strategic mind. Also starring in The Amateur are Laurence Fishburne, Rachel Brosnahan, Jon Bernthal, and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Warfare

Warfare Will Be Released On April 11, 2025

Warfare is, well, a war action movie, directed by Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland. Warfare follows, in real-time, a platoon of Navy SEALs on a surveillance mission through insurgent territory in 2006, which doesn’t go as planned. Warfare counts on the talents of a cast full of well-known names, such as D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Joseph Quinn, Kit Connor, Michael Gandolfini, Charles Melton, Noah Centineo, Cosmo Jarvis, and more. Warfare is based on Mendoza’s experiences during the Iraq War as a former U.S. Navy SEAL.

Sinners

Sinners Will Be Released On April 18, 2025

Sinners is a period supernatural horror movie written and directed by Ryan Coogler. Sinners follows Smoke and Stack (Michael B. Jordan), twin brothers who are trying to leave their troubled lives behind. For that, they return to their hometown for a fresh start, but they make a disturbing discovery when they arrive. As it turns out, there’s great evil awaiting, as the town is now plagued by vampires. Also starring in Sinners are Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, and more.

The Accountant 2

The Accountant 2 Will Be Released On April 25, 2025

The Accountant 2 is an action thriller directed by Gavin O’Connor and the sequel to the 2016 movie The Accountant. The events of The Accountant 2 are triggered when someone close to Agent Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) is killed, and so she has no other choice than to contact Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) to solve the murder. Christian teams up with his estranged but lethal brother, Braxton (Jon Bernthal), but the more they uncover, the more attention they get from some of the most ruthless killers out there, who want to stop their search.

The Legend of Ochi

The Legend of Ochi Will Be Released On April 25, 2025

The Legend of Ochi is a fantasy adventure movie written and directed by Isaiah Saxon. The Legend of Ochi takes viewers to a secluded northern village on the island of Carpathia to meet a farm girl named Yuri (Helena Zengel). Yuri has been taught not to go outside after dark and to fear the Ochi, reclusive forest creatures. One day, Yuri finds a wounded baby Ochi who was left behind by its group, and so she sets off on a journey to reunite the creature with its family. Also starring in The Legend of Ochi are Willem Dagoe, Finn Wolfhard, and Emily Watson.

On Swift Horses is a romantic drama directed by Daniel Minahan and based on Shannon Pufahl’s 2019 novel of the same name. On Swift Horses follows Muriel (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and her husband Lee (Will Poulter), who are starting a new life in California after Lee’s return from the Korean War. One day, Lee’s charismatic brother, Julius (Jacob Elordi), arrives, and though Lee would like the three of them to build a life together, Julius travels to Las Vegas, where he gets a job and starts a new but secret relationship.

Meanwhile, back in California, Muriel begins a secret life, as she starts gambling on racehorses. On top of that, Muriel unexpectedly finds a love she never thought was possible when she meets Sandra (Sasha Calle), her neighbor.
