One Battle After Another Trailer: Leo DiCaprio Scrambles To Save His Daughter From Sean Penn In First Full Look At PTA’s Most Expensive Movie Ever

The first full trailer has been revealed for One Battle After Another. The thriller is the upcoming film by Paul Thomas Anderson, who will be directing his first feature since 2021’s Licorice Pizza and will feature Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role. The film will tell the story of a group of former revolutionaries who come together after 16 years when one of their daughters is threatened by a formidable enemy. In addition to DiCaprio, One Battle After Another features Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, Teyana Taylor, Regina Hall, and Alana Haim.

Per a post on a Leonardo DiCaprio YouTube channel, the first full trailer has been revealed for One Battle After Another. The trailer begins with DiCaprio’s character, Bob Ferguson, rushing through a store and twitching his eyes with percussive piano music in the background. He rushes to a payphone, where he gives the operator what seems like a series of code phrases, including “bat an eyelash.” The trailer explains that Ferguson used to be involved in the French 75, which includes Taylor’s character. When his home gets attacked, he is desperately looking for his daughter. Check out the trailer below:

What This Means For One Battle After Another

The Sound Design Is A Crucial Element To One Battle After Another

The release of this full trailer comes after the One Battle After Another teaser was released last week. The teaser focused heavily on the sounds of gunsH๏τs and Bob’s basic motivator for finding his daughter, whereas this extended clip gives further insights into the main character, Bob Ferguson. The stakes may be high in the Anderson thriller, but that does not mean that Ferguson is competent at handling key matters, such as learning all the keywords in his revolutionary handbook.

Ferguson’s faltering skill creates interesting tonal contrasts in the trailer, imbuing moments of dark humor, which could create an interesting dynamic overall when extended to the entirety of One Battle After Another. Another key element in creating the tension is the heavy reliance on score. Music is often a critical component in Anderson’s work, such as Phantom Thread and Punch-Drunk Love. This year’s thriller seems to be no exception, using the intense piano background noise as a key driver of its atmosphere.

Could This Earn DiCaprio Another Oscar Nomination?

Playing a role that has to balance both intense and high-pressure drama with comedic elements, DiCaprio already shines in this trailer. The challenge of this role and Anderson’s proven track record suggest that DiCaprio could have another sH๏τ at Best Actor for this film. Of his six acting nominations, he has only won once, and the A-lister is beloved enough in the industry that One Battle After Another gives him a likely chance for at least another sH๏τ at the coveted prize.

One Battle After Another is set for release on September 26, 2025.
