A new teaser trailer for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Thunderbolts* movie reveals that the Sentry will be more powerful than all the Avengers in the MCU combined. Thunderbolts* will bring together the MCU’s newest team of superpowered individuals, but reformed villains and antiheroes rather than superheroes. The Thunderbolts team is expected to join forces in lieu of a Multiverse Saga Avengers team, and they’ll continue to operate as a team in the MCU’s future, as most of Thunderbolts* impressive cast has been confirmed to return in Avengers: Doomsday.
Just over a month before Thunderbolts* is scheduled to premiere on May 2, 2025, Marvel Studios released a new teaser showing off more of the Sentry’s power. Lewis Pullman was cast in Thunderbolts* as “Bob” after Steven Yeun departed the project back in January 2024. “Bob” refers to Robert Reynolds, the Marvel Comics character who debuted as the retroactive and amnesiac superhero known as the Sentry in 2000. The Sentry will be one of the MCU’s most powerful new characters, and this is proven in Thunderbolts*’ newest teaser.

What The Thunderbolts* Teaser Means For The MCU Movie
Sentry Will Be One Of The MCU’s Most Powerful Characters
Despite being only 30 seconds long, the newest teaser for Thunderbolts* reveals important information about the extent of the Sentry’s power in the MCU. Most notably, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine suggests that the Sentry is “stronger than all the Avengers rolled into one.” This means that “Bob” must be remarkably, almost unimaginably, powerful in Thunderbolts*, as his power will exceed that of the likes of Captain America, Thor, Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel, among others, which could be game-changing for the MCU.

Thunderbolts*’ newest teaser also stresses that the тιтular team will be forming in response to the absence of the Avengers. Marvel Studios just revealed the first roster for Avengers: Doomsday’s incredible cast, which includes every member of the Thunderbolts team except for Olga Kurylenko’s Antonia Dreykov, a.k.a. Taskmaster. Doomsday will mark the reformation of an official Avengers team, but the Thunderbolts will also have a prominent role, which, while spoiling the ending of their upcoming debut, is a very exciting prospect for the MCU.
Our Take On The Thunderbolts* Teaser
Excitement For Thunderbolts* Has Grown With Each New Teaser
The idea that Lewis Pullman’s Sentry will be stronger than all the Avengers combined is almost hard to imagine. This level of power might reflect his Marvel Comics counterpart, who harbors the power of a million exploding suns as a significantly more powerful super-soldier than Steve Rogers’ Captain America. This will make him a very strong hero, but also make his dark alter ego, the Void, even more terrifying. This god-like being could threaten the entire MCU, perhaps on a multiversal scale, so Thunderbolts* can perfectly set up Avengers: Doomsday by debuting the formidable Sentry.
