Every X-Men Character Confirmed For Avengers: Doomsday

Production has begun for Avengers: Doomsday, and Marvel Studios has just revealed multiple X-Men actors who are set to star in the upcoming crossover. Rumored to feature over 50 different Marvel characters, the fifth Avengers movie directed by the returning Russo Brothers is set to be a multiversal event of epic proportions. To that end, it seems as though the X-Men will be involved just as much as the Avengers themselves.

As confirmed via a five-and-a-half-hour-long live stream, Marvel Studios confirmed Avengers: Doomsday’s cast list with 27 different actors who will have roles in the new crossover. This includes multiple X-Men actors from the Fox universe, and a couple of them haven’t been seen on-screen in decades. To that end, here’s every X-Men character confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday (so far).

Kelsey Grammer’s Beast

Last Appearance: The Marvels

Kelsey Grammer’s Beast was the first X-Man confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday. His appearance will more than likely connect to his recent cameo in 2023’s The Marvels. As seen in The Marvels’ post-credits scene, Beast was shown running tests on Captain Monica Rambeau, who’d arrived in the X-Men’s universe from the main MCU, Earth-616.

Patrick Stewart’s Professor X

Last Appearance: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Patrick Stewart is set to return as Professor Charles Xavier. Stewart most recently played a variant of Xavier in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a member of Earth-838’s Illuminati who was murdered by the Scarlet Witch. To that end, one can ᴀssume that Stewart will be playing a different Professor Xavier in the multiverse, presumably from the same reality as the Beast who appeared in The Marvels. The same will likely be true for many of the X-Men characters who appear in Avengers: Doomsday, hailing from a universe that resembles the Fox universe with many of the same actors, though perhaps not the exact same.

5

Ian McKellan’s Magneto

Last Appearance: X-Men: Days of Future Past

The original live-action Magneto, Ian McKellan is set to reprise his role as the Master of Magnetism in Avengers: Doomsday. Magneto was last seen in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, fighting alongside Xavier in a dystopian future overrun by Sentinels. While Michael Fᴀssbender’s Magneto is extremely popular, it will be very exciting to see McKellan don Erik Lensherr’s classic Magneto helmet for what will most likely be the last time.

4

Alan Cumming’s Nightrawler

Last Appearance: X2: X-Men United

A major surprise, Alan Cumming will be returning as “The Incredible Nightcrawler”, the teleoporting X-Man who made his first and only live-action appearance in 2003’s X2: X-Men United. That said, a younger version of the character did make an appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee.

3

Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique

Rebecca Romijn is also returning to play Mystique, the original actor to play the shape-shifting mutant in live-action. While Nightcrawler and Mystique share a familial connection in the comics (Mystique is Nightcrawler’s mother), the X-Men movies left their connection ambiguous. Perhaps Avengers: Doomsday will finally confirm the truth.

2

James Marsden’s Cyclops

The X-Men’s leader in the field, James Marsden’s Scot Summer aka Cyclops is also set to have a role in Avengers: Doomsday. Aside from his death in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, Marsden’s Scott Summers had a brief role at the end of 2014’s Days of Future Past after Wolverine altered the timeline in the 70s, effectively undoing Cyclops’ death and giving the X-Men a much happier future. The death of Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey was undone as well, though it remains to be seen if she’ll also be making an appearance alongside Cyclops in the MCU.

Channing Tatum’s Gambit

Last but certainly not least, Channing Tatum’s Gambit will also be in Avengers: Doomsday. After years of his movie being trapped in development hell, Channing Tatum finally got to make his debut as Remy LaBeau last year in 2024’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, a breakout character who gained some impressive popularity. Now, it looks like Gambit’s MCU journey is set to continue alongside more of the X-Men in the upcoming Avengers crossover.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to release May 1st, 2026.
