Jason Statham & David Ayer’s Next Action Movie Is Just As Good As The Beekeeper On Rotten Tomatoes (Almost)

Jason Statham and David Ayer are two of the biggest names in action cinema, and they have recently collaborated on their second movie. Statham’s name is nearly synonymous with action movies and the tough, gritty, and often violent characters he plays within them. The English actor’s array of action movies includes the Transporter series, which solidified his status as an action star, followed by Crank, The Meg movies, The Expendables series, the Fast & Furious franchise, and its spinoff Hobbs & Shaw.

On the other hand, Ayer is a filmmaker who started his career penning the scripts for Training Day, the first Fast and the Furious movie, and S.W.A.T. He went on to direct the action movies Harsh Times, Street Kings, End of Watch, Sabotage, Fury, 2016’s Suicide Squad, Bright, and The Tax Collector. In 2024, Statham and Ayer teamed up on the action thriller, The Beekeeper, which received mostly positive reviews and made $153 million at the box office against its $40 million budget. Now, Statham and Ayer have a new action movie coming out.

A Working Man Debuts On Rotten Tomatoes

Its Score Is Almost As Good As The Beekeeper

A Working Man‘s Rotten Tomatoes is almost just as good as The Beekeeper. Directed by David Ayer, who co-wrote the script with Sylvester Stallone based on the novel Levon’s Trade, the new action thriller stars Jason Statham as an ex-marine turned construction worker who must revive his combat skills to rescue his boss’s kidnapped daughter and expose a conspiracy involving corrupt government officials and human trafficking. A Working Man‘s cast also includes Michael Peña, David Harbour, Jason Flemyng, Emmett J. Scanlan, and Max Croes.

Now, ahead of its theatrical release, A Working Man has debuted with a 68% score on Rotten Tomatoes, almost just as good as Statham and Ayer’s last collaboration, The Beekeeper (71%). A Working Man has 25 reviews at the time of writing, so its score could fluctuate as more are published. Its audience score will also begin to take shape after it releases in theaters.

What A Working Man’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Means For The Movie

What Are The Reviews Saying?

A Working Man‘s Rotten Tomatoes score means that, similar to The Beekeeper, reviews are mostly positive. For instance, in ScreenRant‘s A Working Man review, Mary Kessel writes, “Fans of Jason Statham will laugh and cheer as the one-man-army beats his way through bad guys in this mindless actioner that’s light on story but heavy on action.” Based on the reviews, A Working Man should deliver everything that Statham fans are looking for – brutal action and satisfying violence wrapped up in a familiar, sometimes uninspired story lacking depth and originality.

A Working Man releases in theaters on March 28.
