New Korean Thriller With 69% Rotten Tomatoes Score Becomes Netflix Global Hit

Another Netflix K-drama has become a global hit. The platform retained its status as a powerhouse for Korean content with the runaway success of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk’s psychological thriller that became a global phenomenon upon its release in 2021 and is set to return for its final season this summer. Korean thrillers have thrived on Netflix, with notable hits like Money Heist: Korea, the zombie apocalypse series All of Us Are ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, and the dark-fantasy series Hellbound, continuing to captivate global audiences with their own gripping narratives and intense action.

Now, Netflix’s K-drama slate for 2025 continues with its thrilling additions, including the upcoming series Karma, starring Squid Game‘s Park Hae-soo. Based on a popular Kakao Webtoon, the series will follow six individuals whose lives become dangerously entangled through a web of greed, betrayal, and fate. Meanwhile, a feature-length psychological thriller from Train to Busan director and Hellbound co-creator Yeon Sang-ho has recently climbed the global charts upon its release on March 21, offering a chilling blend of mystery and faith.

Revelations Becomes A Global Netflix Hit

The K-Drama Ranks 1st For This Week

Revelations has become a global hit on Netflix since its March 21 debut. Directed by Yeon, the thrilling K-drama follows Pastor Sung Min-chan (Ryu Jun-yeol), who becomes convinced that a man named Yang-rae is responsible for his son’s disappearance. As he embarks on a relentless pursuit of the truth, Detective Lee Yeon-hee (Shin Hyun-been) investigates the same man in a missing persons case, leading to an unpredictable confrontation. Revelations has garnered a 69% score on Rotten Tomatoes with 13 critical reviews and a haunting look at the dangers of unrelenting faith.

Now, Yeon’s latest film on Netflix has become a global hit. Revelations ranks first on the platform’s Global Top 10 non-English movies for the week of March 17 through March 23 in 39 countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Morocco, Hong Kong, Japan, and Thailand. The film has amᴀssed 5.7 million views this week and ranks above Counterattack, Delicious, Little Siberia, Officer On Duty, In Youth We Trust, Dragon, Emergency, Azaad, Demon City.

Our Take On Revelation’s Netflix Success

A Bold New Direction For Yeon Sang-ho

Yeon takes a bold step with Revelations, moving away from his usual themes to explore a grounded, faith-driven thriller. The premise is intriguing, and the execution delivers moments of genuine tension. However, while the film is entertaining, it might lack the staying power of Yeon’s previous hits, like Train to Busan and Psychokinesis, which boast a 95% and 80% score on Rotten Tomatoes respectively. Fans of psychological thrillers are sure to enjoy the ride that Revelations offers, but it remains to be seen how it will stand out in Netflix’s growing catalog of Korean thrillers.
