Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in an exciting Avengers: Doomsday theory that does not only make perfect sense for the franchise, but also explains how Wanda Maximoff is alive by using Olsen’s own ideas for her return. After becoming one of the most popular characters in the MCU through Disney+’s WandaVision, Olsen’s Scarlet Witch had a shocking villain turn in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film followed Wanda as she went on a multiversal rampage, killing almost everyone who stood in her way, to steal America Chavez’s powers of traveling the multiverse.
The latest event in the Scarlet Witch’s MCU timeline is Wanda’s apparent death. After coming to her senses and destroying the Darkholds of every universe, Mount Wundagore collapsed on top of her. However, a blast of red energy indicated Wanda might have survived. After that, Disney+’s Agatha All Along dropped many hints that Wanda Maximoff might be alive after all, and future MCU projects could use her sons and the Young Avengers for a Marvel Comics adaptation that is perfect for Wanda’s current situation. Based on all those elements, a new Avengers: Doomsday theory explains the Scarlet Witch’s MCU return.
Elizabeth Olsen Has Pitched A Story For Wanda’s MCU Return
The Scarlet Witch Could Come Back Very Differently
Olsen wants to continue playing Wanda in the MCU, and I will not oppose that. The character still has a lot of potential, and it is interesting that the actress not only knows that, but wants to be part of the creative process behind her MCU character’s future. I think that makes sense, as the Scarlet Witch’s latest villain turn was a controversial move that angered many fans after all she endured at the end of WandaVision, with Olsen herself showing in many interviews that she was surprised by the direction the Doctor Strange sequel took Wanda.
At the moment, not much is known about Avengers: Doomsday‘s story. However, with Agatha All Along teasing that the Scarlet Witch could be alive and how Wanda is one of the MCU’s most popular characters, I have a hard time thinking she could be absent from the movie. It turns out Olsen has pitched the Scarlet Witch’s MCU return to Marvel Studios, with the actress not revealing which project it was for. However, when asked if she had time to talk to the Russo Brothers — the directors of the next two Avengers movies — about it, Olsen said, “Yeah.”
According to Olsen, her dream version of Wanda is not the most obvious path for her MCU return. That is because the actress would love to see Marvel pick back up with the Scarlet Witch 50 years later. The MCU’s heroes would find an older Wanda with white hair who seems more like a creature than the hero we have come to know. The actress also mentioned possible connections to the comics, how fun playing that version of Wanda would be for her, and claimed she has gone to Marvel about it, saying, “It’s something I have quite literally pitched.”
Marvel Comics’ Children’s Crusade Explained
The Scarlet Witch Has Been Presumed ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Before
It is no surprise that the MCU has been making moves towards the debut of the Young Avengers throughout the Multiverse Saga. The franchise has introduced several young heroes in the past few years, and The Marvels‘ post-credits scene showed Kamala Khan recruiting Kate Bishop for her new team, which will also include Cᴀssie Lang, Ant-Man’s daughter, and others. With Wanda and Vision’s sons, Billy and Tommy, now back in the franchise, the timing seems perfect for the MCU to adapt the Children’s Crusade storyline from the comics, connecting the Young Avengers to the Scarlet Witch’s MCU return.

The Children’s Crusade storyline has long been rumored to be the one Marvel Studios will use for the Young Avengers’ MCU debut. In the comic book story, the young team of heroes sets out to find the Scarlet Witch after she has been presumed ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, with her son, Billy, who is played in the MCU by Joe Locke, leading the charge. They end up finding Wanda, who is alive and has been living happily with Doctor Doom. The timing of the MCU’s events related to the Scarlet Witch’s “death,” the Young Avengers’ introduction, and Doctor Doom’s upcoming debut is interesting.
Avengers: Doomsday Theory Has Doctor Doom Rescuing The Scarlet Witch
Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch Pitch Can Perfectly Fit Into Doctor Doom’s MCU Debut
Olsen’s idea of how the Scarlet Witch could return to the MCU is interesting, and I believe that Avengers: Doomsday could use it, though with a few tweaks. Instead of taking place 50 years in the future, Wanda Maximoff’s MCU return could happen in the present day. At the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Scarlet Witch uses all her power to destroy the Darkholds of every universe. The Avengers: Doomsday theory claims she would have been left depleted after the fact, retreating to build up her strength again, which was the red flash of light.

Taking a page from the Children’s Crusade story from Marvel Comics, Doctor Doom and the Scarlet Witch could cross paths. As the main villain of the Multiverse Saga, Doom would have great use for a character with as much power and multiverse knowledge as the Scarlet Witch. He could find Wanda upon arriving at Earth-616 and take care of her. This allows Wanda and Victor von Doom to grow close and eventually enter a relationship. Now in love and having gone from a weakened state, looking old like Olsen pitched, to back at full strength, Wanda teams up with Doom.
Wanda Maximoff Could Appear Twice In 2026
The Scarlet Witch’s MCU Future Has Many Exciting Possibilities
2026 could be a big year for the Scarlet Witch. Elizabeth Olsen’s Marvel character would make sense for two projects set to be released next year. The first one is Avengers: Doomsday. If she comes back to the MCU as the Avengers movie theory suggests, that would open the door for her to reunite with one of the most important characters in Wanda Maximoff’s MCU journey. Paul Bettany leads 2026’s Vision series, which will be focused on White Vision as he gets his memories back. James Spader’s Ultron will also reportedly return for the Disney+ show.
If Wanda comes back in Avengers: Doomsday, the Vision series could have her reunite with her old flame while also meeting Ultron again after she worked for him in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The Avengers: Doomsday theory would make the Vision series even more interesting, as the MCU could then explore a love triangle between Vision, the Scarlet Witch, and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Given how the Scarlet Witch was also romantically linked to Wonder Man in the comics, the upcoming MCU series starring the character could add to the drama after her possible Avengers: Doomsday return.
