Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, it stars Jenna Ortega as the main character, with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Isaac Ordonez, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Fred Armisen and Christina Ricci in supporting roles. Four of the eight episodes are directed by Tim Burton, who also works as an executive producer.

Burton was previously ᴀssociated with two projects related to The Addams Family: the 1991 film he rejected, and a canceled stop-motion animated film. In October 2020, it was reported that he was directing a television series, which then received a series order from Netflix.
The filming took place in Romania between September 2021 and March 2022. Wednesday premiered on November 16, 2022 and premiered on Netflix on November 23 with generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Ortega’s performance but found some similarities with the CW dramas. Within two weeks of its premiere, it became the third most viewed English series on Netflix.
