The Nun (2018) is a supernatural horror film that is part of The Conjuring Universe. Set in 1952, the story takes place in a remote Romanian abbey where a young nun named Sister Irene is sent by the Vatican to investigate the mysterious death of a fellow nun. She is accompanied by a French priest, Father Burke, who has experience in demonic investigations.
Upon arriving, they discover that the abbey is haunted by an ancient evil enтιтy known as Valak, a powerful demon that manifests as a terrifying nun. As Irene and Burke delve deeper into the abbey’s dark secrets, they learn that Valak’s presence has been linked to the abbey for centuries, feeding on fear and using the nuns as vessels for its power.
Irene, who begins to have visions and experiences unsettling phenomena, uncovers the dark history of the abbey and the demon’s origins. The duo must confront Valak and stop the demon before it escapes and wreaks havoc on the world.
The film ends with an intense confrontation where Irene and Burke manage to contain the demon, but it is revealed in the final moments that Valak’s evil influence is far from over. The movie serves as a prequel to The Conjuring 2 (2016), where the demon Valak is first introduced.
