Ballerina is an upcoming American action thriller directed by Len Wiseman, with a screenplay by Shay Hatten and Emerald Fennell, based on a story by Hatten. This film marks the first spin-off from the John Wick franchise and takes place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).
The story follows Rooney, a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly ballerina-ᴀssᴀssin played by Ana de Armas, who embarks on a vengeful mission to hunt down those responsible for the brutal murder of her family.
The film began its journey when Lionsgate acquired Hatten’s spec script in 2017. His work contributed to the screenplays for both Parabellum and Chapter 4. In 2019, Len Wiseman was tapped as director, with Chad Stahelski, the director of the main John Wick series, on board as a producer.
In April 2022, Ballerina was officially announced, and Ana de Armas was confirmed as the lead, replacing Unity Phelan, who portrayed the character in Parabellum. The cast grew to include Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves.
Principal pH๏τography took place in Prague, and fans can expect the film to hit theaters on June 7, 2025. Prepare for an explosive, action-packed ride in the world of John Wick.
