Woody Harrelson & Simu Liu’s New Thriller Movie Pᴀsses Critical Global Box Office Milestone Despite Digital Release

While Woody Harrelson and Simu Liu started their careers in television, both are now some of Hollywood’s busiest movie stars. Harrelson, in particular, has been acting for over four decades, with his biggest break as Woody Boyd in Cheers. Although the actor has had several prominent TV roles, his career eventually evolved into the movie sphere, which includes franchises like The Hunger Games, Venom, and Now You See Me. In addition, Harrelson has received three Academy Award nominations throughout his career, including The Messenger and The People vs. Larry Flynt.

Liu, like Harrelson, also made his acting breakthrough via television as the leading role in Kim’s Convenience. Since then, the actor has quickly risen in the Hollywood spotlight with major movie releases, including one of the Kens in Barbie and a supporting role in Arthur the King. However, his most popular portrayal is of the Marvel hero Shang-Chi in Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings, which has earned him critical acclaim. Even though development on Shang-Chi 2 is still up in the air, Liu recently collaborated with Harrelson on a survival thriller, which has reached an important box office milestone.

Last Breath Has Hit A Global Box Office Milestone Despite Its Recent Digital Release

The Thriller Hits $20 Million After Less Than A Month In Theaters.

Last Breath has now hit a new box office milestone despite its digital release. The new survival thriller is a dramatized remake of the 2019 documentary of the same name, where a deep-sea diver, Chris Lemons, needs to get rescued following an accident in the North Sea. Ahead of the movie’s release, it received positive reviews from critics for its suspense and dynamic between the cast. ScreenRant‘s Mae Abdulbaki awarded an 8 out of 10 stars for Last Breath, stating: “It works on several levels and, while I wanted just a tad more character interactions between the main trio, I was locked into the film the entire way through.

Now, according to The Numbers, Last Breath has just pᴀssed the $20 million milestone globally. Much of the total comes from domestic territories, accumulating nearly $19 million. The remaining total comes from international markets, particularly from the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Portugal, and Turkey. With the latest milestone, it will inch closer to the movie’s budget, which is estimated to be $23.8 million.

Our Take On Last Breath’s Latest Box Office Milestone

Unfortunately, It’s Not A Box Office Hit.

Even though Last Breath reached an important box office milestone, the thriller is still not designated as a financial hit. While the thriller has a chance to surpᴀss its budget, with a few international releases coming, it would need to cover a lot of ground to even reach the breakeven point. Since that threshold typically means hitting at least twice the budget, it would have needed to be around $50 million or more to have a fighting chance. Unfortunately, that seems very unlikely as most of the audience seems to be coming from North America, where the movie has already been released for roughly a month.

Although the survival thriller may not become a financial hit, it may find success elsewhere. Last Breath is already available via digital streaming, so given the positive, there is a strong chance that it may find success on streaming. As someone who has personally seen the movie, I will encourage audiences to check out this harrowing and suspenseful thriller, now that it can be accessed at home. However, if you have the time, and it’s still available, I recommend taking a quick drive to the theater before it’s officially gone.
