The Russo Brothers’ Millie Bobby Brown MCU Casting Hopes Can Finally Bring Her Into Marvel’s Movies After Her Missed 2017 X-Men Casting

The Russo brothers’ comments about casting Millie Bobby Brown in the MCU could set the stage for her Marvel movie debut 8 years after a missed chance with the X-Men films. While Marvel tends to cast actors who are not yet at the full height of their fame prior to their movie debuts, the MCU timeline has been no stranger to bringing big names into their releases, with the likes of Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Hopkins appearing throughout the franchise. Naturally, that means a lot of fans want to see their favorite prominent actors join the MCU as well.

This has led to Millie Bobby Brown being a popular MCU fancast for some time, as her performance in Stranger Things has cemented her as a major star, and a figure who many want to see take on other prominent roles. While there have been few updates on the matter, Anthony and Joseph Russo’s return to the MCU – and their subsequent comments about how Milly Bobby Brown could fit into their upcoming Marvel movies – make the odds seem greatly in her favor, meaning the actor’s MCU debut could be imminent after a previous missed possibility to enter the Marvel fray.

The Russo Brothers’ Recent Comments About Millie Bobby Brown Make An Impending MCU Casting Seem Likely

Conversations about Millie Bobby Brown’s prospective casting in the MCU have been prevalent ever since she first rose into prominence via her starring role in Netflix’s Stranger Things. However, one 2025 interview saw the Russo brothers provide the most potent evidence yet for fans that this casting could indeed come to fruition in the coming years with the upcoming two Avengers movies, especially due to the teases that these upcoming chapters of the MCU will focus on a colossal multiversal story that may well require a similarly expansive cast to fill it out.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight about The Electric State – in which Millie Bobby Brown also stars – the directors of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were asked about bringing Brown into the MCU, leading Joe Russo to state that “Millie’s on the list for every project. You can’t honestly, you just can’t ask for a bigger star right now… She’s just so lovely, Yeah, we’ll put her in anything.” While not a complete guarantee of Brown’s casting in the movies, these comments certainly suggest the possibility is as likely one if a role becomes available that the duo think she would suit.

Since Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars both appear to focus on different universes rather than the main MCU timeline, it stands to reason that many new characters will be required to flesh out these other worlds, especially if the story ends up adapting the Secret Wars comics, as both the original comic story and the later 2015 story of the same name have a wide range of characters that are integral to the story. With this in mind, the Russos’ statement seems especially noteworthy when combined with how many prospective openings the MCU could have upcoming.

The Russo brothers’ comments also make sense given Millie Bobby Brown has considerable experience in dealing with the time and acting requirements of a major franchise with Stranger Things, and has done so decidedly successfully, having received several awards for the role. As such, translating this experience into another major franchise would seemingly be a relatively straightforward affair, especially since Brown’s Eleven/Jane in Stranger Things also has supernatural powers not dissimilar from many Marvel superheroes in the first place.

Millie Bobby Brown Almost Made Her Marvel Movie Debut In 2017’s Logan

Millie Bobby Brown has discussed auditioning for Logan, stating in a 2017 interview with Variety when asked what her best and worst auditions were that: The best audition for me was Wolverine. I went for Logan and I went for the little girl. While the role in question here went to Dafne Keen instead – who Brown describes as “incredible” in the role in the same interview – the actor explains that the process of preparing for the audition and getting to be alongside the likes of Hugh Jackman in the audition room made the experience stand out as special to her all the same.

The commercial and critical success of Logan prove that Dafne Keen was an excellent choice for the role and its important place in Fox and Wolverine’s cinematic history. However, the idea that Millie Bobby Brown could have been the one to end up acting alongside Jackman’s Wolverine in one of the biggest and most emotional superhero movies of all time is fascinating, and an idea that makes the prospect of her potentially joining the MCU thanks to the Russo brothers all the more notable, since her being Logan‘s Laura would’ve seemingly led down a very different road for her in the franchise.

Millie Bobby Brown Being Cast In Logan Could Have Led To Her 2024 MCU Debut

The role of Laura in Logan is key in the wider Marvel movie landscape not just because of the prestigious reputation of the Fox film, but also because of how it ties to the Fox Marvel universe crossing over with the MCU in recent years. While Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels both featured actors from the Fox X-Men movies reprising their roles in MCU films, 2024’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine took things a step further, officially making the Fox Marvel timeline part of the MCU multiverse.

ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine also managed to bring Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine without undoing the character’s death in Logan, instead having Jackman play a different variant of the X-Men hero who ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool sought to bring back to help save the Fox universe from destruction. Interestingly, this journey brought back several other familiar faces too, with perhaps the most interesting of those being Dafne Keen’s Laura, who Wolverine and ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool meet in The Void, and who is shown at the end of the movie seemingly living in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s home universe, suggesting she could appear again in future Marvel movies.

Dafne Keen has also expressed a willingness to return in future Marvel releases, reinforcing the idea that Laura’s story may not end with ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine.

This theoretically means that, had Millie Bobby Brown gotten the X-23 role for Logan, it would have also led to her debut in the MCU with ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, and potentially a prospective follow-up appearance in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. However, given how Dafne Keen nailed her performance in Logan as well as ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine – and that Millie Bobby Brown seems a promising choice for several other potential MCU roles – the prospective payoff of both being in the MCU timeline now seems all the greater than this alternate universe scenario.
