The next James Bond producing team has reportedly been found in advance of Bond 26. After years of being owned by producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Amazon recently took over creative control of the Bond franchise. This would give the American production company full leeway to do whatever they want with the franchise in its next phase, whether it be a feature film or a TV spinoff. Though the new production control was major news, the franchise is still waiting for progress as the work to select the next 007 actor continues.
Some forward motion seems to be in play, for, as per Puck, Bond 26 has reportedly picked its producers. The reports say that David Heyman and Amy Pascal will produce the next installment. This comes after these producers were rumored among a list of potential names to take over for Broccoli and Wilson. Furthermore, the report claims that Amazon’s plan will be to put out a theatrically released Bond 26 before any TV spinoff series. Puck also suggests that Heyman and Pascal’s hiring does not put Christopher Nolan’s potential directing plans out of the running.
What This Means For The James Bond Franchise
Pascal & Heyman Are Both Accomplished
Both Pascal and Heyman are veteran Hollywood producers, so their addition to the Bond franchise could be substantial. Pascal is a three-time Oscar nominee who has been a producer behind projects such as The Post, Little Women, and Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse. Heyman’s filmography is similarly impressive, as he has been nominated for four Oscars, including recently for producing the 2023 hit Barbie. Both Heyman and Pascal bring backgrounds from critically acclaimed and blockbuster work, making them well-suited to produce high-quality and money-making content for the Bond franchise.
The reported confirmation that Amazon will focus on the Bond 26 movie before any TV content is also significant. A report earlier this month revealed that Amazon had suggested several ideas for 007-based TV shows in the past that were shut down by Broccoli and Wilson when they had control of the franchise. While this did not confirm that the company had a series already in the works, this did prove that Bond television was an interest of Amazon’s, suggesting the company could lean into that for the next franchise installment.
Our Take On The Bond Franchise News
Heyman And Pascal Have Produced Over-$1 Billion Movies
In the multi-decade history of the franchise, only one Bond movie (Skyfall) has ever made over $1 billion at the box office. Between Pascal and Heyman, however, these producers have already achieved this feat multiple times. Pascal was on the creative team of MCU movies Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home, both of which crossed the $1 billion mark. The Heyman-produced Barbie made $1.4 billion to become the highest-grossing movie of 2023. As such, both Pascal and Heyman offer Bond 26 a great chance to become a huge moneymaker.
