After Elio’s New Trailer, I’m Convinced I Know How Pixar’s New Sci-Fi Movie Will Make Me Cry

Ahead of its June 20, 2025 release date, I think I’ve already figured out how Pixar’s upcoming movie Elio will end. Every time Pixar releases a new movie, I always expect to end up crying. Pixar’s best movies include Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., WALL-E, Inside Out, and many more. While these are some of the best animated movies of all time, they all include several sad moments which always result in tears. In fact, Pixar has earned a reputation over the years for consistently making moviegoers cry with their animated films.

The upcoming movie Elio is the newest movie from the animation company, and follows a child who desperately wants to get kidnapped by aliens to escape his life on Earth. Surprisingly, Elio’s wish comes true, and he is taken to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with alien species from all over the universe. It is here that Elio forms a friendship with Glordon, an outcast alien. Based on the new trailer for Elio, I’m confident that I know exactly how Pixar’s upcoming movie will make me cry.

Elio & Glordon Saying Goodbye At The End Of Pixar’s New Movie Will Break Me

Elio & Glordon Form A Special Friendship In Elio

The trailer for Pixar’s newest movie establishes that neither Elio nor Glordon feel like they belong. Elio’s mother is in the military and he doesn’t really have any friends. Meanwhile, Glordon’s father is Lord Grigon, a warlord who will presumably be the main villain of the movie. Since Glordon is nothing like his father, they don’t really have a close relationship. However, when Elio and Glordon meet, they immediately form a special bond.

In the film, Elio and Glordon will become best friends and work together to keep the peace between different alien species. After forming a close friendship, I have a feeling that Elio and Glordon will have to go their separate ways at the end of the movie. After all, they are from different planets and are different species. While they will likely want to stay together, I think Elio will realize he has to return to Earth at the end of the film. If they do separate at the end of Elio, it will undoubtedly be a very sad moment.

Elio’s Ending Could Be One Of Pixar’s Saddest Moments Ever

Elio & Glordon Separating Would Be So Sad

Their friendship will be especially special in Elio since neither of them necessarily belong on their home planets. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Elio and Glordon realize they have to go their separate ways in the movie. While this would be very sad, I expect nothing else from Pixar, a company that has proven time and time again that it knows how to make audiences cry.

Some of the saddest moments in Pixar movies include Sully saying goodbye to Boo in Monsters, Inc. and Andy giving away his toys in Toy Story 3. These, and, of course, many more moments in Pixar films always make me tear up. The animation company knows how to play with audiences’ emotions, and I have no doubt it will do so again with Elio. Therefore, I think Elio’s ending could potentially be one of the saddest in Pixar’s history.
