A new DC Universe report reveals how long James Gunn’s Superman movie may end up being when the film hits theaters this summer. While the Man of Steel hasn’t had a solo film in several years, DC Studios is changing that with the arrival of Gunn’s Superman movie in a couple of months. With Superman being one of the most highly-anticipated movies of 2025, many are waiting to learn as much as possible about Clark Kent’s cinematic return.
In a new report from The InSneider (via The Hollywood Handle,) the outlet claims that the upcoming Superman film with David Corenswet currently has a runtime of 2 hours and 2 minutes. This would make Gunn’s Superman movie the shortest of the hero’s roster since the sequels to the Christopher Reeve films. At the time of this story’s publication, DC Studios has not commented on the Superman runtime report.
What The New Superman Runtime Report Means For The DCU Film
While time will tell how long Superman’s runtime will actually be, 2 hours and 20 minutes is not too far fetched for a Gunn movie in comparison to his previous superhero films. Not only would Superman be longer than both Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but it would also only be 10 minutes shorter than Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. If this ends up being true, Superman would be longer than Gunn’s first DC film, The Suicide Squad, which was 2 hours and 12 minutes, coming in 8 minutes shorter than the Superman movie.
However, it is crucial to keep in mind that this is only one report; hence the emphasis on “current runtime,” as the theatrical cut of Superman could easily be longer or shorter than 2 hours and 20 minutes. Given that there are still almost four months left until Superman hits theaters, a lot can change between now and then. It’s also possible that Gunn will clarify sooner rather than later whether or not there even is a tentative runtime for Superman.
Our Take On Superman’s Reported Runtime
While the current reported Superman runtime is more than possible, time will tell if this actually ends up sticking once the film is released in theaters this summer. If 2 hours and 20 minutes is what Gunn is running with Superman, it is still a lengthy runtime, which should offer ample opportunity to delve into the movie’s story. Hopefully, DC Studios will clarify as soon as possible whether or not Superman has landed on a runtime at this point.
