John Cusack Might Be A Nazi Spy In This Fog Of War Trailer

The upcoming thriller Fog of War brings World War II to American soil with a taut tale of espionage and suspicion. The movie takes place in Mᴀssachusetts in 1944, where evidence of the Allies’ developing plans for their D-Day invasion are taken by a German spy. The movie was directed by Michael Day (Sisters, Clawfoot), and written by Luke Langsdale.

ScreenRant is happy to present the trailer for Fog of War. In it, the thriller’s incredibly high stakes are quickly established as it’s clear that if the Nazi spy escapes, the balance of the world’s largest war could easily tip in the Nazis’ favor. The trailer also promises a twisting, turning narrative that will have audiences unsure of whom to trust. Take a look at the trailer, which features the film’s stars Jake Abel and Brianna Hildebrand as well as John Cusack and Mira Sorvino, below.

How Fog Of War Is A New Take On The WWII Thriller

Fog of War borrows plenty of elements from other movies set during World War II–at this point, that’s nearly impossible to avoid–but the way it shapes its story around them could make for a refreshing addition to the world of films set in that era. The mere fact that the movie is set on American soil makes it stand apart from many of the best World War II movies and shows, as they largely followed the action to Europe. Fog of War looks to smartly lean into its spy narrative to tell a тιԍнт and contained story.

Where many WWII epics are bombastic and action-packed, Fog of War has a very human relationship at its core. The story centers on Jake Abel and Brianna Hildebrand who play Gene, an injured American pilot, and his fiancé Penny, and OSS agent. Thanks to the nature of the film, the relationship between Gene and Penny looks to be a constant focus of the film, and one which will no doubt evolve as the story goes on.

Fog of War also has exciting featured cast members in unconventional roles. John Cusak, known in part for lovable performances in Say Anything and High Fidelity, is a suspicious character named Robert in the movie. Mira Sorvino, beloved for her work in Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and Mighty Aphrodite, also appears in the film. Taking 1990s icons and dropping them into a film where everyone’s motivations are suspect is a smart move that may elevate Fog of War even further as a WWII film to remember.

Fog of War hits digital platforms on April 4.
