The 2015 film Everest included a large ensemble cast from all over the globe as they brought the roles of the people they play to life. The film opened at the Venice Film Festival in 2015 and was a commercial success worldwide, grossing over $200 million at the box office. It was also a critical success, with critics praising the acting and the cinematography. The film also got nominated for Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture at the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Based on the true story of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, Everest follows a group of climbers as they run into trouble with a mᴀssive storm during their descent from the mountain. It soon becomes a battle of wills to survive as the climbers face unbearable odds of getting down at all costs, with some climbers losing their lives on the descent. Among these climbers is Rob Hall, a New Zealand climber who tries everything he can to save his client, but eventually loses his battle against the mountain’s elements. Actor: Clarke has nearly 30 years of acting experience for both television and movies. He is best known for his roles in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes as Malcolm and 2017’s Mudbound, for which he was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award as well as the controversial 2012 thriller Zero Dark Thirty. Originally from Queensland, Australia, Clarke decided to act instead of following in the family trade as a sheep shearer.

Character: Rob Hall is the leader of the Adventure Consultants group and one of eight who died in the storm that hit Mount Everest as he helps a client descend the mountain. Before his death, Hall had climbed to the summit of Everest a total of five times, setting a record for non-Sherpa climbers. Hall was born in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1961 and was 35 years old at the time of his death.

Josh Brolin

Actor: The son of actor James Brolin and stepson of Barbra Streisand, Josh Brolin’s extensive acting career has ranged from playing Thanos in Marvel’s Avengers movies to the role of Lieutenant Detective Christian F. “Bigfoot” in Inherent Vice in 2014. Brolin also earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 2009’s Milk and starred in No Country for Old Men. Brolin has also directed two films and produced over 10, including an executive producer credit on The People Speak.

Character: Beck Weathers is a Texan doctor and climber who is part of the Adventures Consultants group. After the events of the 1996 Everest disaster, Beck Weathers later lost his nose and hands as a result of severe frostbite. Weathers went on to write about his experiences in his memoir, Left for ᴅᴇᴀᴅ: My Journey Home from Everest, which was released in 2000. The book also details his life after the incident and how it helped him find redemption from his previous damaged relationships.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Actor: Born into a family of actors, directors, and producers, Gyllenhaal made his acting debut in 1991’s City Slickers. Gyllenhaal is no stranger to being in disaster films, having played the role of Sam in 2004’s weather disaster film The Day After Tomorrow. Among Jake Gyllenhaal’s best movies is the iconic romance film Brokeback Mountain, where he played Jack Twist, earning an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and the тιтle role in Donnie Darko. He has a relatively quiet presence on social media, with only 49 posts on Instagram and over 8.3 million followers.

Character: Scott Fischer is the chief guide for the rival group Mountain Madness and ends up dying in the chaos from pulmonary edema as a result of the high alтιтude. John Hawkes

Actor: Hawkes has an extensive acting career that has included multiple award nominations and wins, including a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Originally from Minnesota, Hawkes moved to Texas to pursue his acting and music career, having performed his songs in several movies and television shows, including a song on the Winter’s Bone soundtrack which he also starred in as well as having acted in 2012’s The Sessions. He worked as a mailman while doing mountain climbing as an amateur. Hensen was born in Washington in 1949 and died weeks before his 47th birthday.

Actor: Originally from London, Emily Watson started her acting career on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1992 and landed her first big break as Bess McNeill in Breaking the Waves, which earned her an Academy Award nomination. Kelly is also a musician, having written a song for one of Everest’s trailers.

Following the incident, Krakauer did indeed write a personal account of the expedition, Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Martin Henderson

Actor: Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Martin Henderson began acting at the age of 13 in the 1989 movie Strangers. He has starred in a mulтιтude of genres on both film and television, including the romantic comedy Bride and Prejudice as Will Darcy, Dr. Nathan Riggs in the ABC medical drama series Grey’s Anatomy, and Wayne Gilroy in the 2022 horror film X. Similar to other Everest stars, he does not have an active social media presence, posting occasional updates on Instagram and having been inactive on Twitter since 2019.

Character: Andy Harris is one of the guides for the Adventure Consultants group and one of the eight who died on Everest. While the movie makes several ᴀssumptions about what happened to Harris, it is still not known as he simply went missing from the rest of the group. It is theorized based on some of his behavior earlier that he was suffering the effects of hypoxia. His body was never found. Harris was born in New Zealand in 1964 and was 31 at the time of his death.

Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson

Actor: Born in Iceland, Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson is primarily known for his roles in Icelandic movies, television, and on stage. He is best known for his role in the TV series Trapped as well as the Icelandic movies A White, White Day and Godland. There is little known about him in terms of his personal life, and he does not have a big social media presence.

Character: Anatoli Boukreev is a Soviet climber originally from the USSR and is part of Scott Fischer’s Mountain Madness group. Boukreev was already a well-known climber by the time he was part of the 1996 Everest expedition and had completed several of the highest climbs in the world. Sadly, while he survived the 1996 events, Boukreev ended up dying only a year later during an Avalanche in Nepal.

Chike Chan as Makalu Gau – Born in the United Kingdom, Chan was brought up in Manchester where he studied at the Arden School of Theatre, going on to star in mostly television. He has starred in EastEnders and Out for a Kill, with Everest being one of his best known roles.

Elizabeth Debicki as Dr. Caroline Mackenzie – Elizabeth Debicki is an Australian actress who is best known for her role as Jordan Baker in The Great Gatsby and more recently as Princess Diana in The Crown. She also featured in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as Ayesha.

Mark Derwin as Lou Kasischke – Mark Derwin is an American actor who is best known for his role as Jack Gaines in 2006’s Accepted, A.C. Mallet in Guiding Light, and as George Juergens in ABC Family’s The Secret Life of an American Teenager.

Tom Goodman-Hill as Neal Beidleman– Goodman-Hill is an English actor who is known for his role as Frank Crawley in the 2020 adaptation of Rebecca and as Sergeant Staehl in The Imitation Game.
