Materialists Poster Shows First Look At Chris Evans, Dakota Johnson & Pedro Pascal In A24’s New R-Rated Romance

A Materialists poster reveals the first look at Chris Evans, Dakota Johnson, and Pedro Pascal in A24’s new R-rated romance. Written and directed by Celine Song, who made her debut with A24’s Past Lives, the upcoming romantic comedy follows a highly sought-after New York City matchmaker who becomes entangled in a toxic love triangle with two of her clients. With Johnson, Evans, and Pascal starring in the three lead roles, Materialists‘ cast also includes Zoë Winters, Marin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova, Louisa Jacobson, and Sawyer Spielberg.

Now, on Instagram, A24 has unveiled the first poster for Materialists, showing Chris Evans, Dakota Johnson, and Pedro Pascal dressed in formal attire at a social event in New York City. What The Materialists Poster Means For The Movie

A24 Has A Promising Romance On Its Hands

Previously a playwright, Past Lives marked Celine Song’s film debut in 2023, which was a resounding critical success, receiving two Academy Award nominations, including one for Best Picture. The romantic drama, which also earned Song an Oscar nomination for her Best Original Screenplay, follows two Korean childhood friends who are reunited 20 years later in New York City for one fateful, contemplative week. Materialists, while very much a romantic comedy, maintains its New York City setting and appears to be another compelling romance from Song.

However, Song has secured a star-studded cast for her sophomore film. Dakota Johnson leads the cast, who is perhaps best known for her role in the erotic romance Fifty Shades of Grey, but has since turned in some strong performances in indie films like The Lost Daughter, Cha Cha Real Smooth, and Am I OK?. Pedro Pascal is in the midst of a meteoric rise with The Last of Us season 2 and The Fantastic Four: First Steps upcoming. He also has an upcoming role in A24’s Eddington from Ari Aster, marking his second collaboration with the indie studio.

Our Take On The Materialists Poster

Chris Evans Needs This Role

While Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal have turned in plenty of strong performances recently, Evans arguably needs this role in Materialists the most. Since exiting the MCU, he’s had a horrible streak with The Gray Man, Ghosted, Pain Hustlers, and Red One. Chris Evans is clearly a charming actor, and with an acclaimed writer-director like Celine Song at the helm, perhaps she can harness his talents effectively in the romantic comedy and break the truly terrible streak he’s been on.

Materialists releases in theaters on June 13.
