ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2
introduced a whole host of exciting characters, and after the anti-hero has successfully found his way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)
, I need to see one former X-Force fighter return. The ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool series of films are among the most thrilling of all the Marvel projects to date. From the first release in 2016, the Merc with a Mouth has been a hit, and now that ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine makes them into MCU canonical beings who have a chance to travel to the Sacred Timeline, there is so much more room for their story to expand and progress, alongside some familiar friends.
In ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2, Wade Wilson had to form a superhero team to help him fight against his rivals, and so the X-Force was born. Wade held auditions there and then, and while not everyone fit the bill of a hero worthy of joining the team, there were several powerful mutants who appeared perfect to fight alongside ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool. But there was always someone different who arrived at the small shed, interviewed for ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool, and became a part of the team.
ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine’s MCU Success Makes Future Follow-Ups Seem Basically Inevitable
Marvel Crossovers Perform Spectacularly Well
In the MCU, the biggest crossovers to date have been reserved for event films like The Avengers. However, ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s MCU debut, ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, put on one hell of a spectacular show as it gathered together misfit heroes and villains from across the entire history of Marvel movies. And the results speak for themselves, as the movie became the next billion-dollar earner after Spider-Man: No Way Home came out in 2021 (via The Numbers). And it sets a precedent for bringing back nostalgia-based characters to create deeper connections.
Which is exactly why I believe that whatever ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool story comes next in the MCU, whether he survives or not, it needs to bring back legacy characters. And yes, ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2 was only released in 2018, but there were stand-out characters who should have had more of the spotlight. One such character was the mysterious and aloof Domino, played by Zazie Beets. While Domino was introduced in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2, the character has not been seen again since the credits rolled.
ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine’s MCU Success Makes Zazie Beets’ Domino Return Dreams Seem More Possible Than Ever
Domino Was One Of The Most Compelling Characters In ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2
Of course, Marvel Studios has a lot on its plate, and it requires a gentle hand and a clear vision to guide and keep the MCU moving forward, but it does seem like bringing back Domino would bean overall positive for the franchise. Zazie Beets herself has spoken out about her continued interest in Marvel projects, and if she would be open to returning for more stories in the future. And after D&W, it feels like the MCU will need to focus some attention on bringing back fan-favorite characters.
I haven’t had any talks with Marvel, but I talk about it to myself. [Laughs] So, I don’t know. I’d have to find a writer and do all that work, but maybe, who knows?
Nostalgia is a huge motivator for moviegoers in the modern era. But, while it can help keep audiences on the edge of their seats and locked in on the action, movies need to justify why and how a previous character comes back. For some, there is a slow build up to the moment when a previous character appears. On the back of D&W’s success, it feels as though the concept is already proven, and bringing back intriguing characters like Domino simply makes sense both for the franchise and for the actor who is still keen to pursue the part.
Why Bringing Domino Back After ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2 Would Make Sense For The MCU
Domino Could Be An Invaluable ᴀsset In The Upcoming Avengers Movies
The MCU is fast approaching a huge milestone as the Multiverse Saga comes to a close. Since Avengers: Endgame ended in 2019, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have gone their separate ways. But with Doctor Doom lurking just around the corner, a new team needs to form. In addition to whatever group of core Avengers appear in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. These films are positioned to be some of the largest and most ambitious releases in the MCU, with potentially dozens of new and old characters being brought out of the woodwork to take on Doom.
It’s in this setting that Domino would be perfect to bring back. Domino is a hero who has the power of luck to do just about, which allows her to do pretty much anything. ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2 did a tremendous job showcasing the character. With the incredible resources on hand for the MCU and Marvel Studios, it makes perfect sense to bring Domino back, use some Marvel movie magic to show off her abilities, and make Zazie Beets into a regular part of the MCU.
