Over a decade after she appeared in a nonspeaking role in Iron Man 3, Jenna Ortega answered whether she would join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actress skyrocketed into fame after playing the тιтle role in Wednesday, as well as appearances in the Scream and Beetlejuice franchises. She’s become a favorite among audiences, especially young adults, so it’s natural to wonder when she’ll be suiting up in a property as popular as the MCU.
When an interviewer from Entertainment Tonight quipped that she should join the MCU, Ortega reminded her that she “did it once.” She then explained: “It was one of the first jobs I ever did. They took all my lines out. I’m in Iron Man 3 for a quick second. I take up the frame, I have one leg, and I’m the vice president’s daughter.“ Despite Ortega sounding pessimistic about the situation, her Death of a Unicorn star Paul Rudd, who was also part of the interview, pointed out that the MCU sometimes picks up on old loose threads.
The Ant-Man actor stated: “Marvel is very good at, like, kind of laying those breadcrumbs, and so it might very well be that you come back. That they are going to create something for you, ’cause they should be so lucky to have Jenna Ortega in their franchise.” In response, Ortega seemingly shut the possibility down: “They even took my name away. I count that, and then I move on.“
What Jenna Ortega’s Comments About The MCU Mean
Ortega is an incredibly successful star; it’s not surprising that she’d be asked about joining the MCU. Moreover, Iron Man 3 came out over a decade ago, before Ortega was a star, and as a result, many audience members probably forgot she was in the film at all. Because Ortega’s role in the MCU was minimal and easily forgotten, she’s a common fancast for multiple superheroes, including White Tiger.
Ortega’s comments regarding being cut from Iron Man 3 paint a very negative picture of her feelings towards the MCU. Additionally, she implied she would not be interested in a role within the franchise when she responded negatively to Rudd encouraging the idea of her as a Marvel hero.
Our Take On Jenna Ortega’s Comments About The MCU
In spite of Ortega being cut from Iron Man 3 and stating she’s “moved on,” Rudd is right—the MCU would be smart to cast her. Ortega’s hurt feelings make sense, as no actor wants to have their role significantly reduced. It’s less likely that she’s against appearing in another MCU film and more that she’s not counting on it. Moreover, if Ortega returns to Marvel, she probably would not reprise her Iron Man 3 role, but rather, she’d take on a new part. Regardless, Ortega would be a fun addition to any superhero franchise, be it DC or Marvel.
