The Electric State Continues Chris Pratt’s Disappointing 5-Year Rotten Tomatoes Streak (& It’s Even Worse Than It Looks)

Chris Pratt’s latest movie, The Electric State, is getting panned by critics, continuing multiple unfortunate Rotten Tomatoes streaks for the actor. The Electric State is based on the critically acclaimed 2018 science fiction novel of the same name, and is directed by the Russo brothers. The story of The Electric State takes place in an alternate version of the United States in the mid-1990s after a civil war is fought between robots and humans. In the film, a young girl, Michelle, teams up with a mysterious robot to search for her missing brother.

On their journey, they meet Keats, a smuggler, and his robot companion. Pratt plays Keats in the cast of The Electric State, which also includes Millie Bobby Brown, Stanley Tucci, Ke Huy Quan, Giancarlo Esposito, and Woody Harrelson. The Electric State’s budget of $320 million makes it the most expensive movie Netflix has ever produced. However, despite its all-star cast and mᴀssive budget, reviews for The Electric State have been terrible, and Screen Rant’s own Alexander Harrison gave the movie a score of 4 out of 10.

Chris Pratt Hasn’t Had A Fresh Movie On RT Outside The MCU Since 2020

Many Of Pratt’s Recent Movies Have Been Rotten

In addition to Screen Rant’s review of the film, The Electric State currently has a score of 19% on Rotten Tomatoes. The terrible reviews for Netflix’s newest sci-fi movie are not ideal for Pratt, who hasn’t starred in many critically acclaimed films recently. In fact, Pratt hasn’t had a “Fresh” movie on Rotten Tomatoes outside the MCU since 2020. For a movie to be considered Fresh on the review aggregator website, it needs to have a score of 60% or higher. Therefore, the bar is not necessarily extremely high for a movie to receive a Fresh status.

Onward, Pratt’s animated fantasy film from 2020, is his last Fresh movie on Rotten Tomatoes outside any of his MCU projects. Since then, he has also starred in films like The Tomorrow War, Jurᴀssic World Dominion, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and The Garfield Movie. Although, despite some of these films, specifically Jurᴀssic World Dominion and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, performing incredibly well at the box office, they all have “Rotten” ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

Chris Pratt Hasn’t Had A Fresh Live-Action Movie Outside The MCU Since 2016

A Lot Of Pratt’s Live-Action Movies Have Been Panned By Critics

In addition to the aforementioned streak, a more surprising streak is that Pratt hasn’t starred in a Fresh live-action movie outside the MCU since 2016. Since appearing as the lovable Andy Dwyer in the sitcom Parks and Recreation, Pratt has solidified himself as one of the most popular leading men in Hollywood. However, this streak proves that he hasn’t had many hits outside the MCU. His last movie with a Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes is 2016’s The Magnificent Seven.

Even then, The Magnificent Seven only has a 64% on Rotten Tomatoes. Therefore, it just made it over the 60% mark to receive a Fresh status on the review aggregator. For Pratt’s last “Certified Fresh” movie (75% or higher), you need to go all the way back to 2013’s Her, which featured the actor in a supporting role. It is undeniable that Pratt has had a successful career, but these two streaks prove that he has had a difficult time winning over critics for any projects that aren’t part of the MCU.

Chris Pratt’s Poor RT Streak Doesn’t Hurt His Movie Stardom

Pratt Is Still One Of The Biggest Movie Stars In The World

Even though Pratt has starred in a lot of films with Rotten scores on Rotten Tomatoes, he is still one of the biggest movie stars in the world. Neither of these streaks have hurt his movie stardom in the slightest. While these streaks ignore his MCU movies, when looking at the successes and failures of his career, Pratt’s time as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in the superhero franchise needs to be considered.

Pratt has consistently starred in well-received MCU movies for over a decade.

Since receiving worldwide acclaim after appearing in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Pratt has starred in five more MCU movies. These movies include the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder. While Thor: Love and Thunder only has 62% on Rotten Tomatoes, all of Pratt’s other MCU films have over 80%. Therefore, while some of his other movies have received disappointing reviews, Pratt has consistently starred in well-received MCU movies for over a decade.

In addition to the aforementioned MCU films, Pratt also starred in the first Jurᴀssic World movie in 2015, which has a 72% on Rotten Tomatoes. Jurᴀssic World’s score may not be Certified Fresh, but it is still respectable, and the film proved that Pratt could lead another franchise outside the MCU. Even though its sequels were not as well-received, Jurᴀssic World was loved by many all over the world and was a mᴀssive success for Pratt. This film, along with his MCU movies, prove why Pratt is still one of the biggest movie stars in the world.

Will Chris Pratt’s Upcoming Movies Fix His Rotten Tomatoes Streak?

Pratt Has Multiple Movies Lined Up

Chris Pratt’s upcoming live-action movies include Mercy and Way of the Warrior Kid. Mercy is a sci-fi thriller, in which Pratt will play a detective who must prove his innocence. While Mercy won’t be released until 2026, it seems to be a more serious role for Pratt, and could potentially end these Rotten Tomatoes streaks. Meanwhile, he plays an uncle who teaches his nephew to protect himself against bullies in Way of the Warrior Kid, which is based on the 2017 children’s novel of the same name.

Additionally, a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently scheduled to be released on April 3, 2026. In this film, Pratt will once again voice Mario, who is perhaps the most iconic video game character of all time. Not all critics liked the first Super Mario Bros. Movie, which has a score of 59% on Rotten Tomatoes, just missing out on a Fresh status. However, there’s a chance that the sequel will achieve a better score. Therefore, while reviews for The Electric State have been disappointing, Pratt’s upcoming movies could put an end to these Rotten Tomatoes streaks.
