I’m Still Waiting For The Jason Statham Team-Up Movie He Teased Us With 21 Years Ago, & I Hope It Happens After A Working Man

Jason Statham teased audiences with a great action movie team-up 21 years ago with Collateral and Tom Cruise, and I think there’s a chance it could finally happen after A Working Man. The 2025 action movie is the latest to be headlined by Statham after he’s carved out a great career with similar roles. He’s one of Hollywood’s most proven action leads at this point, and he also has a certain amount of box office appeal. That’s made it possible for A Working Man to start a new franchise or open up additional opportunities for him in the same genre.

While he’s typically playing a lone-wolf-style trained killer of some kind, Jason Statham’s action movies have also allowed him to do some incredibly exciting team-ups. He did Hobbs & Shaw with Dwayne Johnson, the Expendables franchise with Sylvester Stallone, The Italian Job with Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron, The Mechanic with Ben Foster, and Parker with Jennifer Lopez. A Working Man is a return to the lone-wolf hero that Statham is accustomed to, but his team-up movies are always quite fun. I’m still waiting for the most exciting possibility he teased us with 21 years ago.

Jason Statham & Tom Cruise Still Haven’t Done An Action Movie Together After His Collateral Cameo

Statham Had A Minor Role In The Michael Mann Movie

2004’s Collateral is one of the great entries in Tom Cruise’s filmography, as he plays a hitman in Michael Mann’s action/thriller. The film largely revolves around Cruise’s character, Vincent, as he goes from killing one person to the next, with Jamie Foxx’s Max as his driver. The cast is quite impressive from top to bottom, but one of the most exciting elements has long been Jason Statham’s Collateral cameo. He appears briefly as a fellow hitman Vincent encounters, resulting in an interaction filled with tension between the two.

I’ve been wanting a real Tom Cruise and Jason Statham action movie ever since I saw Collateral for the first time. Both men were already well-versed in the action genre at this point in their careers, as Cruise was in two installments deep in Mission: Impossible and Statham had recently launched the Transporter series. The meeting of Vincent and “Airport Man” in Collateral offered a glimpse at what a Tom Cruise and Jason Statham action movie could be like, as the idea of them playing rival hitmen is ripe with potential.

Yet, Collateral remains the only movie Tom Cruise and Jason Statham have done together. Statham has never been recruited to the Mission: Impossible franchise or another one of Cruise’s action movies, and Statham hasn’t worked Cruise into any of his various action films either. As two of the best modern action stars Hollywood has to offer, that should not stand. They need to join forces for a new action movie soon.

A Jason Statham & Tom Cruise Team-Up Action Movie Would Be Incredible

Statham & Cruise Would Deliver Plenty Of Spectacle

There are several reasons why a Tom Cruise and Jason Statham action movie could be great. They are both incredibly skilled leads in the genre that bring different expertise to a potential team-up film. Tom Cruise has made it his personal mission to do all his stunts as practically as possible. That approach did wonders for Mission: Impossible and Top Gun: Maverick, and he could bring a similar attention to working with Statham. Meanwhile, Statham’s skill in hand-to-hand combat and fighting would help beef up any physical altercations that take place.

A film that would bring them together – or pit them against each other – would undoubtedly draw in crowds

The end result would be a movie with some of the best action in recent memory that was also being done by two of the genre’s biggest stars. That’s something Hollywood could really capitalize on too. Cruise and Statham both have proven track records with bringing audiences to theaters, so a film that would bring them together – or pit them against each other – would undoubtedly draw in crowds based on the team-up or versus concept. Add in the type of action sequences both men are known for, and we could get a can’t-miss action blockbuster.

I’m Hopeful Jason Statham Will Make A Tom Cruise Movie After A Working Man

The Timing May Finally Work Out

While there have never been any reports about Jason Statham and Tom Cruise trying to make a movie together, I do have some hope that it will happen after A Working Man. A key reason for that belief is knowing that Cruise’s schedule is about to become a lot more open. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is expected to be his franchise sendoff. That will give him a lot more freedom to do other projects beyond the franchise. He’s already started to branch out with a dramatic role, but action movies will always be crucial to his career.

In a time when Cruise will need to figure out new action movie ideas that audiences will want to see, co-starring in one with Jason Statham is a terrific option. Sure, he’ll return for Top Gun 3 and has other franchise aspirations. I’ll be there to see whatever action movies Tom Cruise does next, no matter what. But if one of these upcoming projects happens to pair him with Jason Statham in some capacity, I’ll be even happier. And since Statham only has a few projects lined up after A Working Man, he’d have time for a Cruise team-up too.
