Oh, Hi! has now found a studio. The upcoming dark romantic comedy, which was written and directed by Sophie Brooks (The Boy Downstairs), follows a couple – Iris (You People and The Bear star Molly Gordon, who also developed the story with Brooks) and Isaac (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief star Logan Lerman) – whose new marriage swiftly unravels when they embark on a road trip. The cast of the movie, which has already earned a solidly Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 72%, also includes Blockers‘ Geraldine Viswanathan and Stranger Things supporting player John Reynolds.
Per Variety, Oh, Hi! has been picked up by Sony Pictures Classics just over a month after its Sundance premiere on January 26. So far, there has been no official release date set for the project. Read comments on the acquisition from Sophie Brooks and Sony Pictures Classics below:
Sophie Brooks: I couldn’t be more thrilled that we have found our home with Sony Pictures Classics. For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved their films; always marked by distinct voices and elegance. I can’t wait for audiences to see our kooky film in theaters.
Sony Pictures Classics: That unpredictable, dark romantic comedy – youthful and hilarious yet with just the right about of danger. The performances are fantastic and beautifully directed by Sophie Brooks. OH HI! Is a definite audience winner.
What This Means For Oh, Hi!
It Has Found A Good Home
Oh, Hi! seems to have found a good home at Sony Pictures Classics. The production company and distributor, which was founded in 1992, is known for bringing some of the most well-respected movies of recent years to theaters, including international features such as Run Lola Run, Pain and Glory, and A Fantastic Woman. The dark romance movie has now found a home alongside such recent тιтles as Kneecap, I’m Still Here, and the Anthony Hopkins movies The Father and Freud’s Last Session.
Anthony Hopkins won his second Oscar for his performance in 2020’s The Father.
Because the modern romantic comedy is so unique, it is important that it has distributors that know exactly what to do with it. Given Sony Pictures Classics’ track record, they would certainly seem to be the right fit. Over the years, they have brought a number of unique romance movies to theaters, including Shortcomings, Celeste and Jesse Forever, Saving Face, and The Broken Hearts Club. They are also behind upcoming offbeat romance movies such as Jacob Elordi historical drama On Swift Horses and the literary French comedy Jane Austen Wrecked My Life.
Our Take On The Oh, Hi! Update
Its Release Date Is Questionable
Ultimately, the biggest concern about Oh, Hi! being picked up by Sony Pictures Classics is the fact that they have such a robust slate of 2025 films already set that the anticipated movie may be held for some time in order to leave room. In addition to the Molly Gordon movie, their roster already includes more than a dozen other тιтles such as the Steve Coogan dramedy The Penguin Lessons, Richard Linklater’s Lorenz Hart biopic Blue Moon, and Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut, the June Squibb drama Eleanor the Great.
