M. Night Shyamalan’s Next Thriller Movie Finalizing Jake Gyllenhaal’s Female Lead With Bridgerton Star

M. Night Shyamalan

‘s new Jake Gyllenhaal movie is eying a major Bridgerton star to join the cast. After the success of Trap, Shyamalan’s next movie is a collaboration with best-selling novelist Nicholas Sparks. Shyamalan and Sparks co-created the story, with reports in January noting that Shyamalan was writing the script and Sparks was writing a novel based on the same idea, with both tailored to their respective mediums. The unтιтled Shyamalan film, which Sparks is executive producing, is described as a supernatural romantic thriller, with Gyllenhaal starring.

ᴅᴇᴀᴅline now reports that Phoebe Dynevor is in negotiations to star opposite Gyllenhaal in the unтιтled Shyamalan film. Dynevor rocketed to fame in 2020 with the release of Bridgerton on Netflix, in which she played Daphne Bridgerton. There’s no word yet who exactly Gyllenhaal and Dynevor will be playing in the new film, or what the movie’s story will be. The report notes that Shyamalan’s production company, Blinding Edge Pictures, is currently in talks with Warner Bros. for a theatrical release, with no date set just yet.

Shymalan will produce the unтιтled film for Blinding Edge Pictures alongside Ashwin Rajan. Theresa Park and Marc Bienstock are also producing after serving similar roles for previous Sparks adaptations.

What Dynevor’s Casting Means For The New M. Night Shyamalan Movie

Since there are no details available regarding the new Shyamalan movie’s plot or characters, it’s hard to say exactly how Dynevor will fit into things, but she’s evidently been making quite a mark over the past few years. Bridgerton season 1 served as her big break as an actor, with the season chronicling her character’s love story with Regé-Jean Page’s Duke Simon Bᴀsset.

One of Dynevor’s most notable recent projects is Fair Play (2023), a Netflix erotic thriller that saw her starring opposite Alden Ehrenreich. Her most recent project is Inheritance (2025), a conspiracy thriller, which earned mixed reviews. Dynevor is showing no signs of slowing down, though, and she’s set to appear in Beneath the Storm, a thriller, in addition to Famous, an A24 dark comedy that also stars Zac Efron. Gyllenhaal, on the other hand, is coming off of successes like 2024’s Road House remake and Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent.

Road House 2 is in the works at Prime Video following the first movie’s success, with Gyllenhaal expected to return. Presumed Innocent season 2 is also in development, but Gyllenhaal won’t be returning.

Our Take On Gyllenhaal & Dynevor Starring In Shyamalan’s New Movie

Will The Film Push Dynevor To A New Level Of Stardom?

Shyamalan movies tend to perform well theatrically, as it seems there is a built in audience for anything that he directs. Gyllenhaal, too, has been a fairly reliable audience draw in the past, so the new film certainly has the potential to be a win with audiences. Though Dynevor herself isn’t a proven audience draw yet, at least as far as box office is concerned, this could certainly be the project that changes this.

The confirmation that Shyamalan’s next film is a supernatural romantic thriller is an intriguing combination, and one that could play into many of Dynevor’s proven strengths as a performer.

With her recent films and TV shows, Dynevor has proven that she can do romance as well as thrillers. The confirmation that Shyamalan’s next film is a supernatural romantic thriller is an intriguing combination, and one that could play into many of Dynevor’s proven strengths as a performer. With this latest casting announcement, more information on the next Shyamalan movie is hopefully not far off.
