Robert Pattinson’s New Sci-Fi Movie Pᴀsses Major Global Box Office Milestone Following Slow Start

Robert Pattinson‘s 2025 space odyssey pᴀsses a global box office milestone. Best known for playing the vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise, Pattinson has worked with several auteur directors and gained critical acclaim in the independent film space following the success of the fantasy romance saga. He recently returned to mainstream cinema, with releases including Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and DC’s The Batman.

2025 marks a relatively busy year for the actor. In addition to the new sci-fi satire, Pattinson also stars in a horror fantasy тιтled Die, My Love, in which he plays one-half of a married couple with Jennifer Lawrence. His upcoming projects include the A24 rom-com The Drama, where he stars opposite Zendaya, and reuniting with Nolan in the director’s highly anticipated period drama The Odyssey.

Robert Pattinson’s Mickey 17 Crosses A Global Box Office Milestone

Mickey 17’s Box Office Performance Is Solid But Not The Best

Released on March 7, the Pattinson-headlined sci-fi satire Mickey 17 stars the Twilight actor as 18 versions of Mickey Barnes on a space mission. Adapted from Edward Ashton’s novel of the same name, the film marked director Bong Joon Ho’s first feature since his Oscar-winning sensation Parasite. Despite a big budget, the sci-fi movie had a lukewarm debut with $19.1 million at the domestic box office during its three-day opening weekend.

Per The Numbers‘ report, Mickey 17 has pᴀssed the $55 million global box office milestone. With $24.5 million in domestic earnings and $34 million in international earnings, the movie has amᴀssed $58 million at the global box office. The movie’s domestic box office marked Bong’s second-biggest hit, falling just behind his Oscar-winning movie Parasite.

What This Means For Mickey 17

Mickey 17 Has A Lot Way To Go To Break Even

Mickey 17‘s opening box office has exceeded the initial projection. Crossing the $55 million box office within a week of a release is another good sign. Though domestically it falls far behind Captain America: Brave New World‘s $88 million debut and Dog Man‘s $36 million, the movie still beats Den of Thieves: Pantera‘s $15 million as the third-best opening this year so far. Meanwhile, the similarly R-rated and acclaimed Jack Quaid-led action comedy Novocaine is expected to garner $10 million during its three-day opening this weekend.

On the other hand, Mickey 17 cost around $118 million to make before marketing expenses, which means there is still a long way ahead for the film to break even, let alone make a profit. In 2019, Parasite finished its theatrical run with $253 million in global earnings and became Bong’s highest-grossing film. It seems that Mickey 17 will need to make another $195 million for any chance of beating the record.
