The Odyssey Set PH๏τos Reveal First Look At Tom Holland In Christopher Nolan’s Next Epic Movie

Tom Holland’s look for The Odyssey

is unveiled in new pH๏τos from the set of Christopher Nolan’s epic. Serving as his follow-up to the acclaimed Oppenheimer in 2023, Nolan’s take on Homer’s epic story chronicles the story of Matt Damon’s Odysseus as he embarks on a long and arduous journey home following the Trojan War. The Odyssey‘s cast, like Oppenheimer‘s, features an array of impressive talent, including Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal, among others. It hasn’t yet been confirmed who Holland is playing in the film.

Now, thanks to new images from @UnBoxPHD on X, formerly Twitter, Holland’s The Odyssey‘s look has been revealed. One image shows Holland in a brown cloak standing just in front of Nolan on a large wooden ship, with the latter sporting a red life jacket. Crew members are visible behind the pair, attending to the ship’s rigging.

Other images from the same account provide looks at Holland from other angles, revealing that, beneath his brown cloak, he is wearing a wine-red tunic, of sorts. The other images feature the Spider-Man star chatting with crew members and one also shows him talking to an unknown actor in costume, who is leaning against the ship’s railing. Finally, another image provides a look at a mysterious character with a beard, who holds a walking stick and has a black leather jacket draped over what appears to be a brown robe.

What The Set Images Mean For Holland In The Odyssey

Who He Could Be Playing In Christopher Nolan’s Adaptation

Tom Holland in In The Heart Of The Sea

When Holland’s casting in Nolan’s The Odyssey was first announced, some theorized that he could be playing Odysseus, with Nolan aging the character down from Homer’s story. With Damon now confirmed to be playing the story’s hero, however, Holland’s character remains a mystery. It’s possible that Holland is playing Odysseus’ son, Telemachus. Though the core of the story follows Odysseus’ journey home, Telemachus does feature prominently as he attempts to search for his father and as he deals with suitors vying for Penelope, his mother.

With filming still underway, it could be some months before Holland’s character is confirmed, but the film will hopefully break a worrying trend for the actor. Though all three of his Spider-Man movies have been well-received, his work outside the MCU has been more spotty, with projects like The Crowded Room (2023), Uncharted (2022), Cherry (2021), Chaos Walking (2021), and The Devil All The Time (2020) failing to make much of a mark. Given Nolan’s acclaimed filmography, hopes are high for The Odyssey.

Holland is now confirmed to be returning to the MCU with the announced Spider-Man 4, which is scheduled to release on July 31, 2026, with filming getting underway this summer.

Our Take On The Odyssey’s New Set PH๏τos

The PH๏τos Confirm A Continued Nolan Trend

Given Nolan’s history as a filmmaker and the recent Odyssey set pH๏τos showing a nighttime village battle, it’s not surprising that the recent pH๏τos feature a practical wooden ship. Though the ship itself being practical isn’t unusual, with Ridley Scott building large ships for Gladiator 2 (2024), it is commendable that scenes are actually being filmed upon it as it is on the water. The water action aboard ships in Gladiator 2, by contrast, was all filmed on dry land.

Other than revealing Holland’s in-character appearance, the images don’t reveal too much about his specific character or performance. With it still being relatively early in the filming process, hopefully more is revealed in the coming weeks about what is to come from Nolan’s take on The Odyssey.
